Multiple Identical-Language Tracks

Post by koberulz »

The 88 Films release of Project A contains two Chinese audio tracks, one English audio track, and three subtitle tracks. The Chinese tracks are Cantonese and Mandarin. Presumably there are differences in dialogue between the two dubs, so they each have their own subtitle track, and the third is SDH subs for the English track.

But since MakeMKV can't tell the difference between Cantonese and Mandarin, and all three subtitle tracks are the same language...I'm not sure how to tell which tracks I'm supposed to rip or what I'm supposed to label them.

There are different language codes for Cantonese and Mandarin. https://www.isdcf.com/registry/languages/

Hopefully the disc's author has the correct metadata associated with the audio and subtitle tracks.

If not, you could try putting a sample of the various subtitles into Google Translate and it might be able to guess the which is Mandarin and which is Cantonese.
