ASUS BW-16D1X-U A105 MT1959 - SDFTool 0xFF05C103 flashing WH16NS60 1.00

Hi all,
I'm looking for advice on a 2026 ASUS BW-16D1X-U (MT1959) drive. My primary goal is DVDFab compatibility. MakeMKV already works correctly.
Original drive:
- Model: ASUS BW-16D1X-U
- Original firmware: A105 (encrypted)
- Platform: MT1959
Using SDFtool Flasher v1.3.6 I:
- Successfully dumped the original firmware:
dump_user_ASUS_BW-16D1X-U_A105_212012021114_KLXPABE3417.tar
- Successfully flashed:
DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.02_MK.bin
The flash completed successfully.
Current drive:
- HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH16NS60
- Firmware: 1.02
- LibreDrive: Enabled
- Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
MakeMKV reports:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WH16NS60
Revision: 1.02
LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.02
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
The drive reads UHD discs perfectly in MakeMKV.
Problem:
DVDFab 13.0.6.5 detects the drive and starts reading the UHD disc, but then immediately reports:
"Failure opening the disc due to the unfriendly firmware installed on this drive."
To make it DVDFab compatible, I attempted to flash:
DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.00.bin
using:
- SDFtool Flasher v1.3.6
- WRITE Firmware
- Include boot loader unchecked
- No disc in the drive
- DVDFab and MakeMKV closed
When I click START, SDFtool immediately returns:
0xFF05C103
No firmware is written.
Questions:
1. Is DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.00.bin the correct firmware for a 2026 ASUS BW-16D1X-U (MT1959) whose primary use is DVDFab?
2. If so, what is the correct procedure to transition from WH16NS60 1.02 MK to WH16NS60 1.00?
3. Does error 0xFF05C103 indicate that a different flashing method or tool is required?
4. Would restoring the original A105 firmware dump first be a valid stepping stone, or is there a different recommended procedure?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
