Question of legitimacy on these
Re: Question of legitimacy on these
Most likely fake. The shape of the sheet metal housing doesn't look like it's from a Pioneer drive.J01001111 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 04, 2026 4:34 amAnyone have any insight on to whether these are genuine or fakes?

Re: Question of legitimacy on these
@J01001111 the problem is that not only are there fake drives, you can not trust that the pictures they post on Ebay are genuine. It is not uncommon that scammers (or nasty people) sell you a genuine device or another brand similar to what the pictures show but when you get the device it could be older model, other hardware rebranded as pioneer etc. That way even if you say it is fake and try to get your money back it is hard to win that process because the did send you the device it was just not the device you wanted.
The probability of getting a genuine drive is higher if you select a older model as I suspect it is the newer units that are most likely to be fake.
Not all of them are fake but few are genuine devices. Unless you can buy it in person and check the unit before handing over money it is hard to know if you are buying from a honest seller. Don't forget that also scam genuine business who resell electronics etc. it happens I am sure of it.
If you want a genuine drive buy from Asmcom here in the forum, at least if you are looking for a Pioneer drive. Asus and LG devices are probably not fake but these units are not in high demand and you can buy them from other locations than China.
