Codec Setting

Hello Everybody,

I have a little question - if I rip a DV, the codec is mostly MPEG2.
Now my question :

Can I MakeMKV the Codec to for example H.264 or HEVC ?

And does this really effect the quality of the rip or doesn't it change at all ?

Sorry for my bad English, but I'm from Germany.

MakeMKV does not re-encode video. Tools like handbrake (from handbrake.fr) and ffmpeg will do that.
