Hi - I'm trying to copy a movie to my hard drive for the first time and I thought it was successful until I tried to view the output file. It appears that .mkv is not a file ext I can view. Where did I go wrong?
Thanks

You tried to use Microsoft tools without external help... but it's a common error.
Try VLC, which can be found at videolan.org, and works with most operating systems. It works with most common video formats.
You can also look for CODEC packages to enable MKV playback on Microsoft Media Player. There are commercial packages, and free packages. If you're the trusting type, search for "Combined Community Codec Pack", which I have used, but I dumped Media Player anyway.

If you#re running Linux http://www.matroska.org/downloads/linux.html may help you. There you'll find Links for Mac OS and Windows, too.
