MakeMKV not working under Debian Trixie

I have a new desktop running Debian Trixie, and I can't get MakeMKV to work. If I try to configure makemkv-oss-1.18.2 as a regular user, I get quite a few errors:

If I su to root, configure, make, and make install work without errors in makemkv-oss-1.18.2/ and both make and make install work without errors in makemkv-bin-1.18.2/, but when I run makemkv, it says it says it is scanning the first CD-ROM, and then just hangs. There are two BluRay players and one DVD player on this system.

Maybe Leslie has no permission to write that "RAID/Server-Main..." drive?
Sounds to me that only root have permission to write on that drive.

You should first run older version to get firmware file. Bug in MakeMKV.
You could compile that older version first or be lazy like me and just run Appimage to get that firmware file and then keep use that new MakeMKV 1.18.2 version.

It certainly compiles and runs just fine on a Pi-5 running Pi OS 6.1, which is essentially just vanilla Debian Trixie with a Pi kernel and a few Pi utilities.
