After ripping not all subtitles are working

Post by Cloud »

Hey I could use some help here.

When I rip my DVD´s or BluRay´s and select for example english and german subtitles.
When playing the .mkv-file with VLC-Player i can select both individually but only the german subtitles will be displayed in the movie (If possible I tried to select with and without forced-subtitles, neither worked).
So i tested just playing the movie from a disk-drive and there all the different subtitles are working.

Did I just select some settings for the MakeMKV software wrong?

Thanks in advance

You could use MediaInfo to verify which subtitle tracks are in the .mkv file.

You could maybe try a different player. I use MPV on my Mac; I'm pretty sure there's a Windows version.

If you can verify the subtitles are in the file and perhaps they work in another player, then there's some issue with VLC. If the subtitles aren't in the .mkv file, then maybe they weren't extracted with MakeMKV correctly.

Thanks for your fast reply.

MPV is working great. In the meantime i tried uploading the file to my NAS and playing it via Plex.
With plex i was able to see all subtitles that I included on my rip. But with MPV I can save a lot of time and review the rip directly on my Mac.

I also just found out, that my settings on MediaInfo were wrong (already tried using it).

Thanks for your help
much appreciated
