Region Setting of Drive does not match region of disc

Post by GKDTheGuy »

Hello,

I just have a DVD external reader. I have a normal dvd inserted. When I try to open, I just get the error saying "Region setting of Drive does not match region of disc". I am using a LG DVDRAM SP80NB80. Any help would be appreciated!

It sounds like your optical drive is DRM locked into a region that's different from the disk's region. I don't know if new drives still do this because it's been a long time since I last bought an optical drive I didn't flash. The last I knew of, though, there was a counter that was incremented each time you played a disk, and once that counter reached a certain number (I think it was 5), the drive would become locked into the whatever region the disk was assigned, and from then on would only play disks associated with that region. For example, if your drive became locked to Region 1 (North America), any future attempts to play disks from other regions (e.g., Region 2 / Europe & Middle East) would fail. It sounds like that's what happened here.

Press Windows + X > select Device Manage. Open the DVD/CD-ROM drives section. Switch to the DVD Region tab. Select the country corresponding to the region code of the disc you want to view
