Star Wars "Skywalker Saga" box set bluray 2019 UK region free edition

Post by sweharris »

This is a 18 disk box set, but I'm only concerned with the 9 movie disks (bonus content disks; meh).

Each disk appears to have 3 mpls files that might be valid. They are always 800 801 802

eg "Return Of The Jedi"

800: Segment map: 901,902,922,923,924,914,925,915,926,916,927,917,928,918,929,919,930,920,931,921
801: Segment map: 911,902,933,923,935,914,937,915,939,916,941,917,943,918,945,919,947,920,949,921
802: Segment map: 912,902,933,923,935,914,937,915,939,916,941,917,943,918,945,919,947,920,949,921

I'm guessing that 800 is the correct one in each case ('cos Disney)

But has anyone analysed this any deeper to understand what the differences are?

create a decrypted backup of the BluRay and open the bdmv\streams\00910.m2ts, 00911.m2ts and 00912.m2ts to check for the differences.

I imagine localized hardcoded text or alike.

So I noticed a pattern in segments, which is more easily seen in a fixed font and with spaces where the segments are the same across the 3 versions

Code: Select all

800: 901 902 922 923 924 914 925 915 926 916 927 917 928 918 929 919 930 920 931 921
801: 911 933 935 937 939 941 943 945 947 949
802: 912 933 935 937 939 941 943 945 947 949
So the first one had 3 separate m2ts files, but after that 801 and 802 were identical.

So lets look at them.

901 20c Fox / Lucasfilm / Opening Scrawl "A long time ago..." and the receeding text
911 Same but in French
912 Same but in Spanish

922 Jabba The Hut text overlay in English "There Will Be No Bargain"
933 Same scene but no text overlay.

924 Jabba "Ah do that again"
935 Same scene but no text overlay.

925 Leia as bounty hunter "I have come for the bounty on this wookie"
937 Same scene but no text overlay.

At this point I stopped 'cos the pattern seemed clear. I'm guessing that the overlay would be done via subtitles in the alternate language versions, which is why those two versions ended up identical.

It is very funny seeing "'A long time ago..." in French. Reminded me of lessons back in 1980 when my friend wanted to translate "Once Upon a Time" and we were told the French use "There was a time"...
