I was playing Jack Reacher though VLC and noticed something that made me think I've done something wrong. While I had created the MKV with both the 7.1 and 5.1 tracks included, the 7.1 track, while being listed as DTS-HDMA, says it only has 5.1 channels, and it has the same bitrate as the standard DTS 5.1 track below it on the list. Is there a flag or setting I need to be using, or is this an issue on VLC's side?
UPDATE: Disregard. It must be something with VLC because when I actually looked into the file properties (also through VLC) it shows that the track is indeed 8 channels. Just to double check, I remuxed the audio tracks into separate individual files and the 8 channel DTS-MA track was significantly larger (about 3x) than the standard 6 channel DTS. I don't know why VLC's audio selector is reporting it as 5.1, but it's safe to say it is not.
DTS-HDMA missing 2 channels?
Re: DTS-HDMA missing 2 channels?
VLC cannot decode the HD extensions. While it can determine the DTS profile, it can only parse and decode the 5.1 core…
