Is this USB enclosure suitable for flashing the drive firmware?

Post by alexomaster »

Hi, I will soon be purchasing my first 5.25-inch Blu-ray drive on the used market (I could get an LG BH16NS55 or a ASUS BW-16D1HT nearby at a good price. Possibly even a BDR-S13UBK for an acceptable price.). I plan to buy an external USB enclosure for it. I’ve found an affordable option online: the "CENMATE Optical Drive Enclosure for 5.25-inch SATA Blu-ray/CD/DVD Drive". Will this enclosure allow for flashing the drive's firmware?

NOS Pioneer BDR-S08XLT fullsize (crossflashed to BD-RW BDR-S11JX)

The ICY BOX enclosure is significantly more expensive, so I’m curious whether the one from CENMATE would also work. Is it really impossible to flash the drive with the CENMATE one?
