Hi all - I’ve just returned the Verbatim 43888 as it required “flashing” to rip 4k Discs to my Apple MacBook Air M3 chip - I’m not savvy with ripping etc - Verbatim customer services said that you could only flash the 43888 from a Windows PC ?
However I have since learnt that you can buy pre flashed 4k external drivers - -:
- does anyone have one for sale ?
- is there a way to enable the LibreDrive on the Verbatim using an Apple Mac ?
Apologies for sounding clueless but I don’t understand the process at all
The drive is MT1959 (I’m assuming this is an LG one)
Thanks in advance

Re: Verbatim 43888 MakeMKV flashing
Officially ? Probably. LibreDrive flashing is not "official" flashing, though.Verbatim customer services said that you could only flash the 43888 from a Windows PC ?
There's a whole forum subsection for buying pre-flashed drives : viewforum.php?f=20- does anyone have one for sale ?
Yes, with MakeMKV's universal firmware tool. If you ever get your hands on a new drive that needs flashing, feel free to post your MakeMKV drive information here and we'll be happy to help. Not all Verbatim 43888 are LGs, some of them used to be Pioneers (which are much better for movie ripping, but less so for some game disc ripping such as Playstation 3 disc ripping or OmniDrive-type ripping - these can only be done with some LG drives). MT1959 means that this Verbatim was (most likely) a flashable LG BU40N.The drive is MT1959 (I’m assuming this is an LG one)
