Borderlands - Benelux 4K Release - Bad Authoring?

Post by Krobar »

I have this disc and there are multiple issues with the rip:
  • 1. When ripped to MKV the Dolby Vision pulses brigtness changes constantly (This does not happen with a decrypted M2TS rip so I would guess is a MakeMKV issue)
    2. The video playback is a bit choppy on my AM6B+ (Audio is fine, I guess this is more likely a firmware issue but thought I would mention it).
The disc rips to MKV successfully but lots of sync errors like these:
AV sync issue in stream 0 at 0:00:04.295 : secondary stream video frame timecode differs by -83.425ms
AV sync issue in stream 0 at 0:00:04.379 : secondary stream video frame timecode differs by +125.125ms
AV sync issue in stream 0 at 0:00:04.379 : secondary stream video frame timecode differs by +41.702ms
AV sync issue in stream 0 at 0:00:04.421 : secondary stream video frame timecode differs by -333.672ms

I would say the M2TS rip Audio is about 0.5seconds out (And corrects OK using the Kodi offset).
The Dolby Vision Metadata is V4.0 (Rare on 4K UHDs although other discs with this do work)

If this is a "Badly Authored" disc how do I provide the needed information to see if it can be fixed in a future release?

One test you should try. Rip the disc to a decrypted folder backup with makemkv. Then use mkvtoolnix on the backup folder to create the mkv, selecting the right playlist file in mkvtoolnix. Try playing that on the ugoos and see if the same problems exist. This will determine if it's a makemkv issue or something else.
