Hi everyone
I have just moved my office from one room to another. In both cases I have my PC elsewhere for noise reasons so I use 10 to 15m USB/monitor cables.
That tends to introduce some interesting issues and right now, I'm trying to rip a DVD box and a Bluray disk and I am having issues with both. Why don't I blame my weird setup? Well, I'm not discounting that possibility but this has worked before. I have ripped a dozen Blurays and a dozen TV shows on DVD over this distance.
The reason I suspect the SATA to USB adapter is that I have two of them and when attaching harddrives, one of them already has died from one minute to the next.
So I wanted to know, does anyone have experience with these things? Most of them are chinesium and probably hail from the same factory so I wonder if there is one you could recommend for reliability and longevity?
SATA to USB3 adapters
Re: SATA to USB3 adapters
My optical drives are in enclosures like the Vantec NexStar DX (I see there's a DX2 now, which I haven't tried) or the OWC Mercury Pro. They've worked well for me for years, but I'm only using them with 3 foot USB cables. I would think one of those enclosures coupled with the right long distance USB cable would be as reliable as you could get.
Perhaps a USB cable like this: https://www.cablematters.com/pc-1331-13 ... cable.aspx

Re: SATA to USB3 adapters
I have one of those. Cheap, works with optical drives and you can even flash with that adapter:

Thanks for the input! I'll look into those.
