Best Firmware Version for WH16NS40
I recently bought a WH16NS40 NS50 drive, that I've installed internally in a Windows 10 system. I'd like to be able to rip 4K discs as well as rip/burn CD/DVD/Blu-ray discs. While for ripping I'll mostly be using MakeMKV, I'd like the option to use other programs as well.
To this end, what's the best firmware for these purposes, using SDFtool? Does the WH16NS60 1.02 MK firmware from https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=19634 prevent any of my above requirements?
If I need a different firmware, would I instead flash 'HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BH16NS40-NS50-1.04-NM01701-211901041338'? If so, do I then leave it on that firmware or flash another one after such as 'HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.03-NM00600-211711211653'?
I appreciate any assistance!
The drive details are:
Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WH16NS40
Revision: 1.04
Serial number: <removed>
Firmware date: 2119-01-04 13:48
Bus encryption flags: 17
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959

Thanks for your reply. Before I flash it, does the WH16NS60 1.02 MK firmware prevent using other software or burning discs on my WH16NS40? That's mainly what I'm asking .

You won’t be able to use AnyDVD or DVDFab with a drive with this firmware. It only works with MakeMKV.
Cheers

Thanks! @MartyMcNuts,is there another firmware version you recommend that I flash so that I can use other software as well as burn discs?

Re: Best Firmware Version for WH16NS40
Well, if you want to use AnyDVD and be able to burn discs then stick with WH16NS40 1.02 MK. It will be somewhat slower than the NS60 firmware (but that can be a good thing, especially when reading UHD discs!) and will work with basically any other software.clearcreation wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 3:58 pmThanks! @MartyMcNuts,is there another firmware version you recommend that I flash so that I can use other software as well as burn discs?

Thanks, again @MartyMcNuts! Would I flash straight to WH16NS40 1.02 MK, if possible, or is there another interim file I should flash before hand?

Using SDFtool Flasher, you can flash to WH16NS40 1.02 MK directly. No other steps required.clearcreation wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 2:40 amThanks, again @MartyMcNuts! Would I flash straight to WH16NS40 1.02 MK, if possible, or is there another interim file I should flash before hand?

Re: Best Firmware Version for WH16NS40
Thanks @MartyMcNuts. Sorry to bother again. I downloaded the MK firmware pack, however do not seem to see a WH16NS40 1.02 MK file. I instead see one for WH16NS40 1.03 MK in the old folder and WH16NS40 1.05 MK in the HL-DT-ST folder. Is there another pack that has the 1.02 MK version?

Aaagh... Sorry, my mistake. I meant 1.03 MK. It's easy to get distracted with all these bloody firmwares!clearcreation wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 9:01 pmThanks @MartyMcNuts. Sorry to bother again. Re: Best Firmware Version for WH16NS40
@MartyMcNuts A bit of trouble flashing straight to WH16NS40 1.03 MK. I used SDFTool in admin mode to flash but received an '0x8f052603' error and the flash aborted. Do I need to enable 'enc?' possibly?
Thanks!
Thanks!

You need the additional downgrade checks disabled for 1.04 or higher on that drive

Yep, flash 1.04 MK first, then 1.03 MK. Sorry about that!
