Archgon on MacOS 'challenges'

Hi

I’m having some ‘challenges’ using my Archgon MD-8107S-U3YC-UHDB-S to reliably read UHD discs.


I’ve previously followed the steps to apply the correct firmware level (see information below) but I can only read maybe 1/3 of discs, e.g. Full Metal Jacket works perfectly fine, however Leon or Apollo 11 isn’t recognised.

I’m using MacOS10.15.6. on a 2020 MacBook Pro hence posted this on the Mac page too.

I wanted to see if anyone had similar challenges and if there is anything visible that I’m missing, which can be determined from the Drive configuration information below.

Drive worked fine on Full Metal Jacket yesterday.

This is the result I got when I tried Flash Gordon was a failure unfortunately

See the above bold underlined text!

There is no VUK for your disc yet. You need to send in the dump file to svq@makemkv.com and wait. It usually takes 1-2 weeks for the key to be available. Just retry it every few days.

Any thoughts on the Archgon not reading Leon or Apollo 11? Just keen to see if I’m missing anything obvious based upon the configuration shown? I flashed the device back in Jan .

If you have reading errors, always the first thing to try is clean the disc before trying again. (Yes, even if the disc is brand new out of the box!! They often have a thin layer of film on them which can cause read issues.)

Will do, are there any drives which are considered more tolerant of disc reads - ie read more often?

I appreciate that some drives have better success with certain discs and am planing to make sure I have an alternative to the Archgon so between the two I should normally get a read.

They are all pretty similar in that regard, although the (Archgon) BU40N is probably the best of the best.

Personally, I have an Archgon (BU40N), a BP50NB40 (cross-flashed to BP60NB10), a WH16NS60 and a BH16NS55. I very rarely use the NS60 and only occasionally use the NS55 these days.
