Best media player for Nvidia Shield TV (2019)

Hi guys, I recently got myself a 2019 Nvidia Shield TV and am now searching for a good app to play my mkv rips of UHD and Blu-ray films from my local samba share via LAN. VLC proved to be pretty bad with Dolby Atmos and overall playback, so I'd like to hear your recommendations! I've got the Shield connected via HDMI to my LG SK10y and then to my LG OLED C8.

Note: I'd like to play the original files without having to encode them or anything first.

MrMC is a good Kodi variant.

Koying, of the SPMC Kodia variant fame, handles the android/Nvidia Shield TV versions.
