As I have a lot of DVDs to rip, I bought 3 DVD drives so that I can rip 3 discs at the same time. It's great that MakeMKV allows for this and lets me open 3 copies of the program at the same time and rip all discs at the same time.
However, it's a bit annoying that MakeMKV preferences (as regards to output folder) are stored centrally in the registry. This is particular problematic because all the DVD output filenames are the same (title_t00.mkv, title_t01.mkv, 192.168.10.1 192.168.1.1 10.0.0.0.1 etc). So every time I launch MakeMKV, I have to choose which drive I want to work with every time, scan the disk and then change the output folder, every time, so that each copy of MakeMKV outputs files to a different folder. And every time I change these settings for one copy of MakeMKV, it changes the settings for the other copies too. Rather frustrating.
Please make a portable version
Re: Please make a portable version
A portable version (no install, in other words) may run in to permissions problems on the latest versions of Windows and MacOS, where special access needs to be granted to get low-level access to the drives.
The destination does not have to be locked into the registry; My default destination in preferences is set to "SemiAuto" and "Z:" for the path. This has MakeMKV default to Z:\{title of disk} for the output. Many disks have a title that will fill that in, so the multiple copies being run are going to generate their destination paths going to different places with each disk inserted.
If you are using expert mode, it's easy enough to modify all of that before you start the rip. See Changing names with Expert mode enabled for more information.
There's also modifying the Default output file name template to get differences in how the names of the files are generated.
Edited to add: I've run up to 5 drives on 3 machines simultaneously, using the same settings, without conflicts, but it does take a minute or two to set up a rip. The registry settings aren't affected.
