I thought it was the result of a one particular Blu-Ray, but now it seems to be doing the same thing on pretty much any Blu-Ray I've tried. This includes discs that I've ripped successfully in the past. Since MakeMKV just hangs, I can't even see any error code associated with the problem.
The problem seems to have started after trying to make a copy of Pacific Rim, and it's limited to Blu-Ray discs. DVDs read just fine. I also tried downloading MacGo's Blu-Ray reader, and that seems to have issues reading from the drive, too. I'm using a Pawtec Blu-Ray on a Mac Mini running the latest El Cap.
Any advice from the folks here?
Blu-Ray rips causing MakeMKV to hang, repeatedly (on Mac)
Re: Blu-Ray rips causing MakeMKV to hang, repeatedly (on Mac
What you describe seems like an AACS lock-out, but that should return an error message saying that.
If you insert a disk with a version of AACS newer than the drive has seen before, it loads the revocation table from that disk into the drive's firmware, without any warnings or needing any software to do so. From then on, if your application uses a key that was revoked, that drive will refuse to work with ANY Bluray, and will report an error.
But you're not getting an error....
Are you loading the disk, then starting MakeMKV, or is MakeMKV already loaded when you insert the disk?

Re: Blu-Ray rips causing MakeMKV to hang, repeatedly (on Mac
I'm pretty sure that I've tried both, but usually, MakeMKV is up before I put in the disc.
Also, I can always read the contents. Then I start to rip and MakeMKV hangs. I usually end up with a small file on the hard drive. I would have assumed that if there was an AACS lock-out, the drive wouldn't be able to access any of the content.

Correct, AACS lock-out would keep you from even loading the disk.
In case this is a problem with version 1.9.10, you can find the last few versions here:
/download/old/
If one of those works, Mike will want to know.

It appears to have been a drive problem. Using a new cleaning disc fixed it.
