Large MKV files

Post by legadema »

I burned BDXL disk with mkv video files 3 of them about 25 GB and one is 9 GB ,i have no problem playing this one 9 GB but i can not play those 25GB files..I am using external asus blu ray writer (SBW-06D2X-U)...Is it the software/player problem or something else?Any solution for that? I guess that merging this big mkv files would work but is there any other solution?
P.s Also i use same external device for playing...

If the files are playable from your hard drive but not from the burned disk, that would be a problem with either the disk or the software that burned it.

The size you're burning would get into layer 3 of a disk, so it is possible that the drive has problems burning past layer 1. I've had issues with burning ANYTHING multi-layer reliably, so I don't bother anymore.

Yes they are all playable ,i am using power 2 go burning software ,one that came with external writer,so there is no problem with file size ? and what you suggest ,using single layer disks (25GB)?

That is a question you'll have to ask the Power 2 Go people. MakeMKV just writes the MKV files, it doesn't try to burn them to disks.

BDXL uses 2 to 4 layers for data. The first layer is 25GB in size, so any combination of files that is bigger than that will span layers. Changing layers seems to trip a lot of burners up.

Ok thank you for information i will try with single layer disc because i fail to burn 2 100 GB discs ,both of them are defective after "successfully completed burning process" thank you for answers i have no complain with mkv files i used them all the time ,and as for a software i will go and try to find the safest one...
