Buzzlite1926,
The guide is confusing at first when I tried to do it, but I think I understand what part you're confused in, as I read in other post others users was confused to,
Here are the instruction that is very simple anyone can understand, even though the steps in the guide is actually perfect but there is a part that is confusing:
First check what version is your drive in MakeMKV info if it's 1.03, if you already flash it to DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK.bin than you just need to crossflash it.
Here are the steps very easy to understand:
1. Open SDTool Flasher (v.1.3.5), click ---(Please select Drive)--- pick your Blu-ray drive LG-BP50NB40
2. Now, click (WRITE Firmware) a pop up box should appear, you select, DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK.bin than click start, wait for it to finish flashing, after check to see if your firmware is 1.03 in MakeMKV info.
Now for the crossflash:
3. Click the RECOVER Drive, and a pop up box should appear, now select the firmware you just flash which was DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK.bin
4.(Now below is the confusing part I believe you're confused in, as I was too)
In the SDTool Flasher (v.1.3.5) menu there is a white box below RECOVER DRIVE, called = (----Please select a Firmware to write---- ) click on that box, and pick DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin firmware, this is the best firmware as what Marty said, it has better options when it comes to programs.
Now press Start, it will Flash your drive, wait for it to complete, look at your MakeMKV info it should say BU40N 1.00 in product, you should now be able to read and rip 4K discs when inserted
Do not read any other forum post about your LG-BP50NB40 external Blu-ray slim drive, it will just confuse you more, as there are users who are saying download this and that, this is what happen to me, I downloaded a old firmware pack which was a Hybrid_Firmware, even though it worked and I could read and rip 4K discs, just read the newest post thread, all you need is the stuff below:
SDFtool Flasher (v1.3.5)
DE_LG_BP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK.bin = Download from, All You Need Firmware Pack (MartyMcNuts)
DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin = Download from, All You Need Firmware Pack (MartyMcNuts)

This is really out of hand here at this point just buy an automated flasher from Marty or me. Or a preflashed drive no need to do this nonsense and be annoying to the guide creators and flashing tools.
Probably 100,000+ people have done this with this guide
There is nothing wrong with either

What is annoying is there being so much everywhere and vague unclear step instructions and hella verbal rudeness! .

Yes I sent the info. But then someone said my Firmware had to be
Firmware type: patched (micro access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.03
Not
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.00
But...unpatched and 1.00 sounds accurate.

Is there an SDF Flasher tool available to work on Mac?
I recently followed a YT video with instructions how to do everything, but the SDF Flasher he recommended doesn't work on Mac.

No, only command line. See Billy's Ultimate Guide.

I followed your instructions and purchased the LG M-DISC Blue Ray drive and I downloaded the SDF Flash utility, and I downloaded the All You Need Firmware Pack, but it doesn't contain the recommended file from your video. Specifically the Firmware Pack doesn't include the file called HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM001... My drive is the HL-DT-ST_BD-RE=WH16NS40.1.05_12005061440_KLCN74E2155. Where can I find the file above or the file, if different, that I need to reflash my drive? Thanks!

Without a lengthy explanation,
the guide DOES recommend:
WH16NS40 on any Firmware directly to > WH16
NS60 1.02MK
filename = HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin
WH16NS60 1.02MK is a patched version which, among other things, resolves the "sleep bug".
Trust the guide.
