as of 1/5/25 any drives purchased after this date that use a vantec case or adapter have no warranty with me please use the OWC instead yes the drive sticks out a bit but not a big deal.

Just curious as to why this was added? I haven't seen anything on a vantec case being problematic before other than some firmware flashing.

To many doa causing returns/exchanges for me when my drive is perfectly fine.
There are other issues too but not trying to cause panic

I bought a drive from Billy. It was a great experience. If you're not in a position to flash your own drive or just aren't in the mood to figure it all out, don't hesitate to buy a flashed drive from him.

Just wanted to add to the another positive experience buying a drive from Billy. Communication was top notch and the drive delivered earlier than expected. I have put the drive through its paces, ripping everything from CDs all the way to 4K Blu Rays. It handled everything like a champ, and in many cases, much faster than my older CD/DVD external drive. In case anyone was wondering, this drive is connected to an M1 Mac Mini, in case someone was wondering if it would work under macOS. Very pleased with the results. Would do again.

The drive I ordered last week arrived today, and worked like a champ out of the box. Also a macOS user here, with the drive in the OWC Mercury Pro case. I used a straight screwdriver to mod the OWC case so the screw holes lined up with the drive.

Back to being a silent lurker, thanks to this community in general for being a great resource all these years of ripping bits from discs.

I have a nubie question. In what I've read it says that if fw is 2023 or later on an otherwise compatible Pioneer drive, it can't be crossflashed or downgraded to an older compatible fw. But then at the bottom of your first post I saw this. The bolded text says you can reflash a drive that has new fw. Does that apply to 2023 or later fw? Are you now able to make a drive with 2023 or newer fw rip UHD BRDs?

What is the fastest UHD disc reader you have? Don't care for burning, just ripping my own UHD/4K discs, So preferably a player only.
