I don't get it, though I have avoided casing up some cheap drives from the red flags of the listings (Chinese, too cheap, too many available, and sharing identical photo sets). AliExpress and eBay both are very strict, and side with the buyer pretty much every time, forcing either no physical return or a free shipping physical return, when the listing and product differ. Seems risky, for the sellers, unless there really are a majority of people buying them and then not looking at what they actually get.
I, unfortunately, was one of those who fell for the scam. I have ordered from Ali Express for years, and figured that as always, they would refund me if the vendor's explicit promise to send a BDR-S12CBK fell through. Well, I ended up getting a BDR-PR1JAME, and I raised a dispute, and despite giving them proof of the conversation with the vendor, I only got 1 50% refund. That left me out $75 only, but the drive I got wasn't worth even that much. So it has dampened the risks I'm willing to take there, even when vendors explicitly promise features or items.
If the vendor knows they can get away with getting even only half of the purchase price for an otherwise worthless drive, it's worth it to them.
Can the bdr/bde pr1jame drive not be flashed to be UHD compatible? I am under the impression that Amethystum drives are simply rebadged Pioneer drives from the 11 and 12 generations. I would also love to see the makemkv info of the drive too.
I don't think so. Please post your Makemkv info to check.

Stupid question: What happens if I manage to screw up the part where I'm supposed to do this:
IMPORTANT: Please reboot your drive before using a new SDF.bin - close MakeMKV, unplug, power off, wait 5 seconds, plug again, start MakeMKV.
I think I might have done something out of sequence, and screwed up the drive. My drive has gone from working fine prior to not fully spinning up. It makes the boot up noises over and over again, and never seems to go into the full spin. Disc information just sits on "Disc is being loaded".

Please send the firmware dump from this drive, MakeMKV should create the file (dump_fw_xxx.tgz) automatically.

You should always insert the disc and let the OS initialise it
before opening MakeMKV.

Please send the firmware dump from this drive, MakeMKV should create the file (dump_fw_xxx.tgz) automatically.
No files were created by MakeMKV in the folder .MakeMKV
I've tried several times.
1. Start MakeMKV
2. Close MakeMKV
3. Disconnect the drive
4. Reconnect the drive
5. Start MakeMKV
Nothing in the
.MakeMKV folder, only the
_private_data.tar file

So I just encountered a weird issue. Newbie here. I have the Pioneer BDR-XS07UHD. It was working with no issues last night and this morning on ripping 4K’s. Then I ripped a standard blu-ray, now it won’t rip 4K’s anymore. Like it reverted. Anyone know why this happened? I’ve restarted and rebooted everything I can.

You gotta put a blu-ray disc in it for MakeMKV to initialise!

Hi!
I've already submitted a fw_dump.tgz (or actually two, one weighted significantly lower than the other.)
Is there anything that I could do additionally or should I just wait patiently?
And btw, kudos to the admin for doing a fantastic job for the community.

To see if your drive is now supported, download the latest SDF and place it in the MakeMKV data directory.

My BDR-X13E-X is not supported yet. I know it will take some time before every drive becomes LibreDrive enabled, but from what I understood from Mike’s post, the new SDF update should allow creating a full firmware dump.
However, my dump file is only 3 KB instead of the expected full firmware dump of around 2 MB. Is this normal, or did something go wrong?

Not sure if i'm doing something wrong here, updated SDF, power cycled etc.
This drive is actually generating a dump file though but its only 982KB, i've sent it through to
support@makemkv.com once in Dec 2024 and at the start of this month.
