Please read the 1st post of this thread for the drives that will allow you to rip / backup your 4K discs. You can also buy any one drive from that list and put it in an external enclosure.

No, none of those Archgon's are compatible. Only the MD-8107S-U3YC-UHD is capable as it contains a BU40N drive inside.
Cheers :D

But From Amazon : ‎MD-8107S-U3YC-UHDB-S "Archgon Style UHD External 4K-Ultra HD Blue BD Player, Blu-ray BDXL Burner for PC USB 3.0 USB-C, M-Disc, Native 4K USB UltraHD BluRay Players, Protection Box, Alu Silver"

An Amazon user said that "The Style has an LG brand BD-RE BU40N, the Star a Pioneer BDR-UD04. The Star is better in compatibility and quietness."

So if it's true that the Style has the BD-RE BU40N I can rest assured that it's compatible with makemkv for backing up my 4K?

Yes, the model(s) containing a BU40N are 4K compatible. The Pioneer's are not.

DE_LG_BU40N_1.00 is the best for your drive.

Thank you so much!

I succeeded and it works fine. (I'm trying right now to back up Blade Runner Uncut 4K).

So we can say that this MD-8107S-U3YC-UHDB-S works great.

Again thank you very much!

I just got a BH16NS40 / SVC:NS51, here's the information I get:

Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BH16NS40
Revision: 1.02
Serial number: (hidden)
Firmware date: 2115-12-11 14:36
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 68

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.02
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

From this information, do I still have to flash in order to read UHD disks, or is it actually unneeded (as everything is marked OK)? I thought flashing was necessary for all UHD friendly drives, but I'm not sure how to interpret this report...
I don't have UHD disks yet (was waiting to have an enabled drive before I'd start buying), otherwise I'd already be testing of course.

The 1st post in this thread has a list of known encrypted FWs (& MANY other things) . It remains the "definitive guide" on this topic.

If you download and use SDFTool Flasher, it will do the hard work for you. You will need the latest version available from the dedicated thread.

Thanks for answering! I tried using this but I just got the error that my "api-ms-win-core-winrt-l1-1-0.dll" is missing on my computer and I can't find a way around it. Could I still be able to manually flash it?
