3 if the fbi or dts dd trailer. Sometimes there's the company logo as well. Not to confuse you all but if you see a mpls file called then switches to a Long link to a powerdvd/cased/......Buda folder then you have to find the hidden mpls as shown in my other 2 videos. Else this method will work fine.

3 is either the DD dts trailer or the FBI warning. I know this is an old movie but still important info as all movies have a sound trailer or FBI warning before the main movie.

Re: John Wick - US Netflix Rental Version

Post by MZAdotcom »

This is regarding the Netflix rental blu-ray: has the right file been figured out for this particular disc?

Hope I'm not missing anything, but have read all the posts in this thread several times; other versions, like Redbox, Amazon, etc., are mentioned more vs. the Netflix one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just updating my last post here:

I can confirm 100% that what FL-Ronin posted on page 3 of this post/thread is the right file for the Netflix blu-ray version of "John Wick":

He wrote:

From what I read elsewhere...

Netflix Blu-Ray

Title information
Name: John Wick
Source file name: 00641.mpls
Duration: 1:41:12
Chapters count: 16
Size: 19.9 GB
Segment count: 20
Segment map: 505,508,507,501,512,504,520,513,517,506,515,518,510,516,503,511,519,502,514,509
File name: John_Wick_t180.mkv

Watched to confirm and this is it. One of THE best revenge flicks, BTW; fantastic gun-play/action. Keanu Reeves @ his best.

Thanks, FL-Ronin, you/this thread helped me. Hope this helps others. Cheers.

I recently tried to rip my Amazon version of John Wick using the 589.mpls and the scene with him getting the dog was out or order, even though it seems that most say that is the correct source file. Anyone else have problems with 589?

I just received my retail copy of John Wick from Amazon. When trying to rip with makemkv, I see the Segment map at both t174 and t175 are in a different order than what was previously posted. I suspect the order has was refreshed to confuse people trying to rip.

Manually searching through the play list, the following matches for me. I've not tested yet.

Code: Select all

Title information
Name: John Wick
Source file name: 00202.mpls
Duration: 1:41:12
Chapters count: 16
Size: 30.9 GB
Segment count: 20
Segment map: 508,501,503,511,510,516,520,518,507,512,519,513,509,517,515,506,514,504,502,505
File name: John_Wick_t53.mkv
For reference, the following on the same DVD do not match:

Code: Select all

What I mean by that is that once it is ripped it will not play and if I try to transcode it with Handbreak it will not detect an audio track even though I know it is there. I have AnyDVD and it says that PL202 (it also matches the chapter list others have posted) is the main one so I tried that as well and get the same thing. Do these guys really have nothing better to do that make life difficult for those of use that have legal copies and also have the legal right to make back up of it? The bar code on the package is 0 31398 21104 4 80. here is the report from AnyDVD...

Note: automatic detection of region code not possible with this disc.
Blu-ray Java signatures fixed!

Java BD protection good playlists: 202

Anyone else have any luck with this release? Thanks
I can confirm that, while my AnyDVD didn't give me the track number, 202 is correct for my copy from Amazon UPC: 031398211044. I played the disc and rip side by side, jumping to many different points and all chapter markers and it matches 100%
589, as mentioned multiple times here, is not which can be seen within 3 mins.

Glad to you know that 202 matches for you! I agree it was a major pain. I also use Handbrake to transcode and it also had problems with the audio. I needed to get a new version of Handbrake to deal with the audio from this DVD. Luckily, I had just upgraded a computer to Fedora 23. The version of Handbrake there was new enough to be able to handle the DVD's audio format. So, I finally have a playable video. I hope the same path works for you.

Wow! 80+ replies and still no confirmed answer.

Not too sure "John Wick" is worth the hassle...

As stated above, 202 worked for me on the Blue-Ray of the Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital HD purchased in November 2015.

From the history above, it's apparent they are spinning different versions of it to discourage rips. You will need to verify that the segment map is in the correct order: 508,501,503,511,510,516,520,518,507,512,519,513,509,517,515,506,514,504,502,505

The "no definitive answer" is because you get different disks depending on where and when you buy them.

The key to John Wick is the first number in the scenes. If your disk series starts with 513 (scroll down the list and all the mpls files start with scene 513), than the right combination of scenes is:

513,502,515,504,509,512,508,505,503,506,510,518,516,507,519,511,514,501,517,520

This matched up with 00772.mpls on my disc but yours may differ. You have to go through the list (tediously) and find the matching combination on your disc.

If your disc series starts with 508, then the right combination of scenes is:

508,501,503,511,510,516,520,518,507,512,519,513,509,517,515,506,514,504,502,505

If your disc series starts with 505, then the right combination of scenes is:

505,508,507,501,512,504,520,513,517,506,515,518,510,516,503,511,519,502,514,509

Thanks Summit Entertainment for making this one such a PITA to backup for us legal, purchased disc owners who just need a digital backup.

I can tentatively confirm that the correct file for the Netflix (U.S.) disk is 0641, as others have already indicated.

I'm having a problem, though: even selecting what appears to be the correct file, I am getting scsi errors, device errors and medium errors out the wazoo. currently awaiting the third disk from Netflix to make one more attempt. I rely on Make MKV to view BluRay, because my player doesn't natively provide playback, so any help would definitely be appreciated.

As mentioned in my previous post, 0641 is 100% the correct file for the Netflix rental version. What version of MakeMKV are you using? I had SCSI error issues, etc., with an older one. Problem was fixed when I updated to the latest.

I also had troubles with a Netflix copy of John Wick. MakeMKV reported numerous errors when I tried to encode - I'm using the latest version too - v1.9.10. I think this disc may have some quality control issues - when I played it on my bluray player, the first fifteen minutes were fine, but then there were audio & visual freezes and stuttering playback. Hopefully a second copy will be better.
