Wow, I am a total dummy. After getting a new computer, I was updating many things, and I saw there was new firmware available for my BDR-XD05S (manufactured March 2018). I did not do enough research beforehand, and immediately regretted my haste to "upgrade". This drive is no longer able to rip UHD BDs. Is there really no way to restore that functionality?

No, you have ruined it. It can only be used for DVD/BD discs now.

Hey,
First of all thanks for all the posts here. I have read and learned so much by now. I wasn't sure if I chose the right topic. I want to flash my Pioneed BDR-XD05 to use UHD and I am using a mac. Am I correct to assume that using the terminal for this is still the only option I have?

Hello, there's a local guy selling a XD05 that's unopened.
The only information I have is after I asked him to check the back of the box is
that it was manufactured in April 2014 and it says CUXV5 in big letter in the back.
Not that I need another drive but I'm wondering if anyone can tell with this minimal information
if it's flashable and if it might be worth picking up.
He's got it listed for $90. I'm not sure because it is still 11 years old even if it is unopened and never used.
Thanks.

Yes. Can be flashed to XD06 and is then UHD capable. Sounds like a good deal.

OK thanks for the fast reply!
The 11 years old is giving me some hesitation but maybe I'll get it
and then I'll reach out to you to help with the flashing.
Thanks again.

Pioneer drives are essentially capable for UHD since the 208 was sold. Only LG drives need to be younger than end of 2015.

Thanks! I got him to come down to $80.
I'm going to go and pick it up in the next hour or two.
If you can help me out with the flasher, that would be amazing.
Thanks so much!

Thanks Coopervid!
The drive is flashed and working.
The only one thing I noticed is that after ripping the disk doesn't stop spinning after completing the rip
until I exit makemkv. My other drives don't do that so not sure what's with this one.
But no biggie.
Thanks again!
