Yeah, you're right. Paint it black could be a solution also
Thanks for response. Yes, the BDR-XD07TUHD is ready for go with MakeMKV of course. Then I'll take the black drive and sell the silver one.
Edit: Or I'll keep the silver one, the black one makes strange whirring noises when ripping, which the silver one doesn't make..... Lenses are cleaned with alcohol .... My friend will not be happy about this.

Redundancy is important while these drives are not produced anymore and the prices are skyrocketing.
I own 2 LGs, 1 211 und 2 212 drives. Should be plenty.

I'm trying my best to understand this whole process, but having quite a hard time wading through all the technical jargon I'm unfamiliar with. To the best of my understanding, my drive should support reading UHD discs, possibly with some type of firmware flash? (not entirely knowledgeable on what that exactly is) What sort of risks come from doing this, such as the possibility of bricking the drive, and would doing this make it possible for me to backup the iso files from my UHD discs? If someone would be able to break it down in relatively simple terms, (I have a base level understanding of hardware and software but not much further) I would greatly appreciate it. Here's my drive info for context:
Drive Information
OS device name: D:
