Good evening,
my country of residence is Germany and i need a recommendation for a reliable libre-drive friendly, external Pioneer drive.
Thank you in advance!
Have a good one!
Verbatim 43888
I ordered this one. What do I do when it arrives? Or does it work as is?
Plug it in and start ripping!

It works out of the box. The enclosure is power hungry. Make sure you use an USB port that delivers enough.

Subject: Alternative for Item 9 – Recommendation
Hello Jurgen,
Thank you for reaching out; as requested in your email, please find our recommendation as a follow-up to your request to enquire about Item 9 vs Item 6. Your email box is full and we have posted where you originally quoted your enquiry from "Most Reliable & Versatile Drive". Unfortunately, we do not have Item 9 in stock at the moment. However, we recommend Item 6 as an excellent alternative.
Item 6, the BDR-S13EBK, is the exact same drive used in Item 9. The key difference is that Item 9 comes with a fully plastic enclosure and no on-off switch. Item 6 features the Vantec DX2 (model NST-540S3-BK) enclosure, which is primarily made of aluminium. In our opinion, this makes Item 6 a superior option as the enclosure is sturdier and also includes an on/off switch—something Item 9 does not have.
We believe you will be pleased with the quality of Item 6.

Full size internal or slim external?

Preferably external

Edit: I could probably 3D print an enclosure to an internal drive (assuming I can find the correct adapter), so whichever works for me!

Try to find a Verbatim 43888. It contains a Pioneer UD04 and works out of the box with UHD discs.

I found the one with the EAN:
0023942438885
Isn't the Pioneer drives the ones that couldn't be flashed if newer than 2022(?)

That's it. It will work out of the box. It has still old firmware when sold by Verbatim. That's what matters. Not the production date.

Hi there, I'm also new to MakeMKV and ripping Blu-rays (including 4K) for that matter. My country of residence also is Germany.
So do I understand correctly that the best or at least a good choice for getting started with a slim drive is to go for a Verbatim 43888 which contains a Pioneer UD04 that is not in production anymore, or is shipped by Verbatim with older FW that is UHD and LibreDrive friendly?
So flashing in this case is not necessary and is only done with drives to get support of 4K discs and libredrive functionality (e.g. Firmware crossflashing or downgrading?)
Thanks in advance!
