Since the MEL includes dynamic metadata, it should also still be an improvement over just HDR10, but not quite as good as full FEL playback?
Convert to Profile 8.
You will not lose that much with dropped FEL.

Thank you so much :)
Possible, but it will be p5 with YCbCr colorspace and TV dovi decoder may expect ITP in p5. In this case colors will be very wrong
Try Profile 8 at first.

Profile 8.1 not working properly after conversion. It is not read at all. The funny thing is that dual track dual layer MEL movies using original mp4 method are working entirely correctly. (Tested on Casino Royale UHDBD rip).
But when the movie is FEL and I use the same mp4 method on that. For instance Game of Thrones episode, then it is read but its darkened very much which is definitely not correct. So i am looking for a way to convert FEL to MEL without changing to profile 8.1. Just leave it at profile 7 or convert to profile 5 which are both read as long as its MEL.
Best Regards :)

What are the benefits of profile 8.1 instead of profile 7 MEL?

It's the same. P7 MEL is used for Blu-Ray disks and P8 is pretty much dead. Dolby Labs only recommend using P5 for streaming services. P8 is used only by MakeMKV members and Torrent users I guess. The community here collectively attempted to use the P5, but we lack the Dolby's proprietary tools for it. But we were able to come up with methods and create tools to reproduce a correct P8 videos, which is the same as P7 MEL. Pretty much credit goes to user yusescope. Has not shown any activity lately

Some dovi decoders don't work with P7 but work with P8.1
P8.1 is almost equal to P7 only difference is VUI Chroma Sample Location value. For P7 it's always 2, for P8.1 can be 2 or 0.
That's why P8.1 is the best option to convert UHD BR P7
Sadly, not all devices capable to play P8.1. Like 2016-2018 Bravias.

Fire TV 4k HDR devices and CCwGTV do support both profiles. The ladder even supports the FEL P7 too! Too bad both devices are limited to lossless audio. It does not bother me since I don't own a capable speaker system and receiver anyway.

I bought the sony x700 but i am disappointed with the subtitles.
It supports the ass format (SubStation Alpha), but the style doesn't change, as if using the srt format. Subtitles are too bright.

any alternative? I would like to get the chromecast, but i read that the refresh rate is fixed

After wasting my whole day today, I wanted to learn what the maximum capability of my players were using dolby vision, here are the results! I hope this helps somebody reading to save them time. (These are all dvhe.07.06 BL + EL + RPU apart from the dual track dual layer ones )

These are the results I'm getting for a dolby vision movie on the Oppo 203:

ISO: Dolby vision and atmos

Blue ray Folder: Dolby vision and atmos

.mkv: HDR and atmos

original .m2ts file: HDR and atmos

.m2ts single track dual layer: dolby vision and atmos

.ts dual track dual layer: dolby vision and atmos

.ts single track dual layer: dolby vision and atmos

.mp4 dvhe.05.06 single track BL+RPU : dolby vision + lossy atmos

.mp4 dual track dual layer (version 7 dvhe): vision and atmos

These are the results I'm getting on Nvidia shield Pro:

On plex:

.ts single track dual layer: dolby vision and atmos (no pgs subtitles working AFAIK)

.mkv: dolby vision and atmos ( no pgs subtitles working)

.mp4 dvhe.05.06 single track BL+RPU : dolby vision + lossy atmos

.m2ts single track dual layer: dolby vision and atmos

.mp4 dual track dual layer: HDR atmos

On Kodi 19 for nerds:

.mkv dolby vision + atmos

.m2ts dual layer double track: HDR + atmos

.m2ts dual layer single track: HDR + atmos

.ts dual layer single track: HDR + atmos

.ts dual layer dual track: HDR + atmos

.mp4 dvhe.05.06 single track BL+RPU : dolby vision + lossy atmos

.mp4 dolby vision 7: dual track dual layer: HDR + atmos

In conclusion, I have no idea what common file to use to convert my dolby vision movies to. Ideally, I want them to be .mkv as it's just convenient but unfortunately the oppo 203 can't play it in dolby vision. Any ideas? thanks:)

Kind of surprised about the Kodi results. Why do you need both Plex and Kodi though?

I ideally want kodi to run properly as I prefer to have my files on a HDD rather than set up a server. Also the problem with plex is that the PGS subtitles don't work have to find .srt subtitles.

Basically I want 1 file that works both for my shield and my oppo without having to mess around with them too much.

I hear you about the one file to rule them all haha. Many of us are in the same boat as you. At least we are two people lucky enough to have an Oppo 203. ;)

may someone help me please?

I'm trying to use yusescope's tool on a macbook with windows parallel and it comes up with this error?

'\\Mac\Home\Desktop\yusesope_tool_v0.0.4_alfa_initial_release'
CMD.EXE was started with the above path as the current directory.
UNC paths are not supported. Defaulting to Windows directory.

C:\Windows>python-3.7.6.amd64\python.exe src\app.py -demux
The system cannot find the path specified.

C:\Windows>pause
Press any key to continue . . .

I'm a total noob with pc stuff and code etc, can someone tell me in simplistic terms how to solve this? thanks:D

@bobby yeah the oppo is amazing love it.

Hi, what tv do you have?

I have red nvidia shield can't play FEL part of dolby vision video track because SDK limitations or something similiar...do you know anything about this?

I use MKV on Plex on my 2019 Shield Pro and it works well, but I sometimes find it takes 2-5 attempts to start the film before DV triggers and not HDR. Has that been your experience?

I also find that it takes a little longer to start the film if it's DV - it sits at the spinner for a few seconds. HDR films are pretty much instantaneous.

I have LG E9

I'm not sure what error you're experiencing.
What file are you using and what device are you using?
