Really, the only solution for all your problems is the chinoppo.
MakeMKV support forum

No, you didn't understand correctly. Any subtitles track on the x700 work but you just have to activate them manually.deadchip12 wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 3:28 pm so if I understand correctly, with the x700 playing the m2ts file via usb, the subs for those Italian lines will not appear because they are not hardcoded? Hmm that could be troublesome... I remember in The Inglorious Bastards for example, there are lot of hardcoded subs for non-English lines. Not sure if those are hardcoded or not.
Good to know...RESET_9999 wrote: Wed Jan 27, 2021 9:20 pm DV is supported only in TS / M2TS / MP4 and bluray disc on the x700...
no BDMV support via USB
Well profile 04.06 is also dual layer DV but it's not the correct profile for DV with an HDR10 BL. It's used for SDR BL + EL DVkws53 wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 4:36 pm Good to know...
Follow-up on .ts format for x700. Do we use SL or DL?
Single Layer -> Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.04.06, BL+EL+RPU, Blu-ray compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible
OR Dual Layer-> Video 1 -> SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible
Video 2 -> Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.07.06, EL+RPU, Blu-ray compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible
And FWIW, would either of these perform BETTER than an MKV (GAMMA) on the Shield?
Thanks. So - Latest TSMuxer release (JustDan) is the perfect way to go creating DT DL P7.RESET_9999 wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 4:55 pm Well profile 04.06 is also dual layer DV but it's not the correct profile for DV with an HDR10 BL. It's used for SDR BL + EL DV
What you meant to ask is: should we use Single-Track Dual-layer profile 7 (same type as makemkv) or Dual-Track Dual-layer profile 7 (tsmuxer remux)?
on the x700, all the profiles are supported but some ST DL P7 files don't work while ALL the DT DL P7 files work.
So I prefer using:
OR Dual Layer-> Video 1 -> SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible
Video 2 -> Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.07.06, EL+RPU, Blu-ray compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible
yeah, the TS/M2TS files created by tsMuxer have a bug.kws53 wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 5:17 pm Thanks. So - Latest TSMuxer release (JustDan) is the perfect way to go creating DT DL P7.
Final question - your signature refers to a .TS file from DolbyLabs (I downloaded) and you refer to it "fixing" a DL problem on the x700? I'm confused based on what you say above...
Just play the DV remuxes in an app that doesn't support DV (non-beta Kodi, Emby, Mxplayer, etc) and they'll properly ignore the DV layer and play it in HDR10. All the DV mkvs that makemkv make are HDR10 backwards compatible.kws53 wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 5:26 pm Now that it is clear that the Shield/CX has a problem with DV, does it make sense to remux the DV releases to HDR10 (drop the EL+RPU layer)? Or is what we are seeing equivalent to HDR10, only labelled as DV?
while it's ignoring the EL, you are still getting dynamic HDR from the Shield. It's no better than HDR10plus and it's superior to HDR10.kws53 wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 5:26 pm Now that it is clear that the Shield/CX has a problem with DV, does it make sense to remux the DV releases to HDR10 (drop the EL+RPU layer)? The need for manual activation of the correct sub-track with m2ts is pretty much a dealbreaker for me having lived in the world of carefully tagged mkv files with automatic sub activation via Kodi etc. But there is a scenario where I wonder if the m2ts approach would really fall over: titles where the forced subs are embedded in the main sub track, rather than in a separate dedicated track. Most titles use the dedicated track method. Game of Thrones (at least the bluray version) uses forced subs in the main track - when ripping, if you tick the forced box, you end up with an extra track from makemkv for many of the episodes. I don't know if the UHD discs are the same, but if GoT was converted to m2ts, I would expect that you would either have to watch with the full sub track on for all dialogue, or disable and miss the subs for all those "foreign language" scenes. I suppose one would have to do some extra processing to create another track just with the forced subs, then merge in? Seems like quite a lot of hassle?RESET_9999 wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 4:24 pmNo, you didn't understand correctly. The x700 file playback is just unable to detect the forced flags in the container therefore, cannot activate the subs automatically.
yes, cinavia free 350usd. https://www.avpasion.com/foro/t/m9702-m ... 9702.2469/RESET_9999 wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 4:30 pmWell, how much cost the chinoppo? where can you buy it ? is it Cinavia free?kazuma wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 3:31 pm Really, the only solution for all your problems is the chinoppo.
the x700 is only 240USD and can easily be bought on amazon or less than 150USD used on ebay

it cost little more, but this box solves all your problems. and it's the best picture you can get on the market. (same oppo-203 quality)
yes that's a good point.morbius wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 5:57 pm The need for manual activation of the correct sub-track with m2ts is pretty much a dealbreaker for me having lived in the world of carefully tagged mkv files with automatic sub activation via Kodi etc. But there is a scenario where I wonder if the m2ts approach would really fall over: titles where the forced subs are embedded in the main sub track, rather than in a separate dedicated track. DV quality is the same on all the bluray players.
For SDR and HDR10, an HTPC with madvr gives the best quality.
