I am also having trouble with my BP50NB40 SVC NB52 (manufactured 1/2026). I cannot seem to locate the BP50NB40 (NB52) 1.03-MK bin file. Can someone point me in the direction of where to find this? I only see the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP50NB40-NB50-1.03-NM00800-212005070917.bin located in the "The all you need firmware pack". Full disclosure - I downloaded this to my drive on accident already.

I also downloaded the "Hybrid_Firmware_for_BP50NB40_to_BP60NB10" pack but those were not successful either. I need the BP50NB40 (NB52) 1.03-MK file still in order to proceed with flashing, I think? Once I have that, I see I need to crossflash by recovering the drive first, as previously stated by MartyMcNuts.

Any and all help welcome! I'm a bit of a newbie, so any and all instruction/feedback welcome :)

Thank you!
No, you want the BP50NB40 NB50 1.03 MK firmware, not NB52.

Everything you need is in my all you need firmware pack along with the gif showing you what to do in the first post of the SDFtool Flasher thread.

Thank you, Marty! Quick question - the only bin file I'm seeing in the firmware pack is the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP50NB40-NB50-1.03-NM00800-212005070917.bin file - it doesn't really say 1.03 MK. Is this the correct one? If so, I will try again, but I did try this in the SDFtool and I'm still getting that my drive is a BP50NB50, even after applying the BP60NB10 file.

Appreciate the response!

Yes, that is the MK firmware. First flash this. Make sure that it is then showing this in Makemkv info. The start the recovery process as shown in the gif.

So I definitely didn't scroll down far enough to download your specific All You Need Firmware Pack... I just had the one that was posted in the main topic of this thread. I downloaded yours, followed your instructions/GIF and everything worked like a charm!

To claim one more moment of your expertise - I downloaded the BP60NB10 1.00 MK firmware to my drive, but there is a 1.02 MK bin available. Is it better to upgrade to the 1.02 or leave as 1.00? My other disc drive (same model, but SVC is the NB50) is 1.02, so wasn't sure if it was recommended I flash to latest version.

Appreciate your time!

1.02 is recommended but probably no big difference. If you want to use other ripping software like DVDFab you must flash BU40N 1.00 from the All you need package.

You're awesome Coopervid, thank you! Assuming that the BU40N 1.03 MK is the MakeMKV file only, whereas the BU40N 1.00 is for other program usage? I have DVDFab too as a last resort (kind of), but primarily use MakeMKV for all my things.

I recently flashed my HL-DT-ST - BU40N to LibreDrive 1.03 which worked great, but it's not compatible with Redumper, and Omnidrive https://github.com/RibShark/OmniDrive seems to have the same capabilities as Libredrive, except it can read some game discs too.

So that had me wondering about if I did flash to OmniDrive, what is the safest way to do so? Do I have to re-flash back to the factory firmware it came with, and then go to Omnidrive, or can I overwrite Libredrive with Omnidrive.

I don't need to flash it to OmniDrive, so if anyone has any strong opinions on LibreDrive vs. OmniDrive, I'd love to hear them.

I just got a new WH16NS40 with a manufacture date of Feb. 2025 so I assume it is encrypted and before I start flashing the drive I want to make sure I do it correctly and don't miss anything.

I grabbed the MK firmware pack here from here viewtopic.php?f=19&t=19113
I notice in the "Ultra HAX0R" GUIDE V2 for encrypted firmware to Make your Drive UHD friendly video and in the "Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2026" it mentions using the MK firmware and there is three download links. the one that I grabbed the firmware pack which had HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900-212005061440.bin, then there is viewtopic.php?f=19&t=19113 which is a google drive link with HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin which is in a folder called The all you need firmware pack.zip which does not have the WH16NS40 in it, and there is the All You Need Firmware Pack (MartyMcNuts) in the GUI SDF tool link that has DE_LG_WH16NS40-NS50_1.02.bin

do I just run this command

Code: Select all

makemkvcon64.exe f --all-yes -d D: rawflash enc -i C:\Users\XXXXX\Downloads\mk-firmware-pack-20200720\mk-firmware-pack-20200720\MK\HL-DT-ST\WH16NS40-NS50\HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900-212005061440.bin

Unlocked Flashers, Downgrade Enabled Firmware and MK Firmware:

The last time I flashed a drive it was 7 years ago and I believe I used a LG firmware flashing program if my memory serves me right. This drive cost nearly $300 and don't want to brick it.

if someone can please post a link or tell me which firmware I should download and which way of flashing I should use?

The SDFtool Flasher GUI is simply a front end for the CLI. This is simply to make it easier for those not familiar with using CLI.

Also, it is recommended to use WH16NS60 firmware for your drive, not WH16NS40 firmware. This is because the NS60 firmware removes the UHD disc sleep bug and also reads faster.

Use WH16NS60 1.02-MK if you only use MakeMKV or Xreveal for UHD ripping or WH16NS60 1.00 if you use other UHD ripping software. All the firmware you need is in my firmware pack.

I decided to try and reflash the drive, it completed with no errors, and now my disc is reading. I'm backing it up now to test it and it seems to be working. I'll post back if it doesn't work.

hello, having trouble with my BU40N. Was able to use it to save DVD and Blueray videos fine. Went through the process of updating the firmware to allow UHD movies. After using the GUI to update the firmware, I was able to save the 1st LOTR movie, but now it won't save anything. Have reflashed, even via the MakeMVK built in program following the video guide (have dual boot on my main computer).
Linked to below is the drive I purchased, the 2nd drive I bought for the case to do the flashing (read about the issue with archgon cases). And a screenshot of MakeMVK showing my drive information and the error I'm getting.
One thing that's odd, is the 1st movie worked while keeping the drive in the 2nd case. But after the 1st movie, it'll randomly disconnect after clicking on the drive icon to load the movie info. When I use the original case, it won't randomly disconnect, but it does what's shown in the screenshot.

If this is a lost cause, I'm ok buying a new drive (please point me to a good one for UHD). But certainly would prefer not to if I can avoid it (they are pricey. lol)
Thank you!!!

But certainly would prefer not to if I can avoid it (they are pricey. lol)
Thank you!!!

you have a power issue try a higher powered usb port or get a powered usb hub
still having an error. switched to a desktop so there is better power available. Got it so it doesn't randomly disconnect. But will still fail. Screenshot below. There is an error that comes up about "downloading latest HK disabled or failed". Not sure if that is relevant? 1st time it tried to download that, it just sat there a while and failed.

you still likely have a power issue if the dive is showing no disc in the middle of trying to open it
try a high powered usb hub 35+ watts

oh wait your on linux downgrade to 1.00 then try again

"HK Download" error - MakeMKV needs internet access to download keys. It is enabled by default. Check internet or confirm setting in MakeMKV allows Internet access. I *think* some downloads are from Russia(?) - make sure your FW/router is not blocking Regional IP addresses.

Download failure is not related to the SCSI error messages - those are still power related.

Desktop does not necessarily equal better power.

Use a "Y" cable w/2 x USB port connections, AC adapter (if chassis supports it), or a good, high amp output USB hub.
