The H-U includes a stand for the enclosure, the X-U doesn't.

He's just giving people another option. Given the cost of the drives now, not having to pay another USD40 on top would appeal.

I can get the drives quite cheap too, around 15-20 Euro sometimes. I didn't realize they were in demand, but next time I'll stock up and sell them on cheaply. I just want people to be able to rip and preserve this media.

I ended up with 3 drives myself. Bought the second one because I forgot to bring the first one on a trip, it was about 10 Euro a couple of years ago. Bought the third one in December because it was USB C and meant one fewer cables to carry with me, for about 15 Euro. Flashed them for free.

They often appear in thrift/second hand stores.

Can't say that flashing is a straightforward process ...

I just got a WP50NB40 ( only drive I could find at my local microcenter )
and after running makeMKV I got the following
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WP50NB40
Revision: 1.03
Firmware date: 2121-07-08 16:09
Bus encryption flags: 17

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
I got the All You Need Firmware Pack (MartyMcNuts) pack
and I'm bit confused with the next step
My understanding is that I need to go to
DE_LG_WP50NB40-NB50_1.03_MK.bin
and then to
DE_LG_BP60NB10_1.02-MK.bin

is that the correct assumption ? I did not fully grasp the concept of SVC ( and if it's relevant here )

Any guidance would be much appreciated
Thanks in advance :)
Yes, the SVC code is relevant. If SVC NB52 (look at the sticker underneath the drive), follow the steps in the first post (or the gif), substituting BP50NB40 for WP50NB40. I have pasted them below for you.

1. Flash the drive to BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK.

After a successful flash to the MK firmware of the drive do the crossflash:

2. Select the RECOVERY option and in the pop up window (as per the window title text), select the BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK firmware that you just flashed and click OPEN.
3. Select the BP60NB10 1.00-MK or BU40N 1.00 (this is what I recommend) firmware in the normal firmware selection drop box (as per the window title text) then click OPEN.
4. Click START
Perfect.

Hi All,
... Better late than never. Thought I would finally get around to backing up my UHDs, and I am very upset to hear I waited too long, and now the pioneer drives are becoming hard to find.

If I was able to acquire a PIONEER BLU-RAY BURNER BDR-XD05B, would I be able to flash it and rip my collection? [I do not have it yet, but it is safe to assume it is unused. Also has a MFR date of Nov 2018]

You need to post your Makemkv info.

I do not have it yet. I was hoping to get an answer before I acquire it.

The only thing I know is the manufacturer date is November 2018, and it appears to be unused.

I have two more questions...

One, I just flashed my BP50NB40 to HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP60NB10-1.02-NM00800-212005070935.bin. Is that the one I should be using? Or is there another, better firmware I should be using?

Two, my brother has a BP50NB40 that was manufactured on October 22, 2024. Would he be able to flash this drive, or no?

Do we have any known working Slimline enclosures that aren't listed in the first post? Not finding those in stock.
