I have also a

Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-BDS7
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.01/ID05
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

with a FW version date 03. Sept. 2020. So far, I haven't had an issue with ripping 4K movies onto my hard drive. But Mortal Kombat II (2026 version) is refusing to get ripped. MakeMKV complains, it is missing decryption key, passkey doesn't work with my Pioneer BD drive at all.

Do I really have to put in different FW or is it only this specific movie? If the recommendation is, to use different FW, can someone please DM me the instructions for it?

Thank you in advance.

Ps. I am ripping the movies to watch the 4k versions on my computer and this is the only way to do it.

If MakeMKV says it is missing a decryption key, then it undoubtedly produced a dump file. Attach that .tgz file to an email and send to svq@makemkv.com. Eventually a hashed key will be made that MakeMKV can download and decrypt the disc in question. There are more details in the UHD FAQ.

Additionally, MakeMKV can use the Public KeyDB. The necessary decryption key might already be there, but it not the dump file can be submitted there are well.

If your drive works for other 4K discs you should not need to change the firmware on your drive.

I have sent the dump file about 7 days ago already and it will be automatically uploaded, each time MakeMKV fails to read the disk.. As such, I am currentl "spamming" them with dump files

But the public key works.. ripping as I write this.
