So, I'm building a hackintosh. Listed as an optical drive that's hackintosh friendly is the LG WH14NS40. I ordered one from Amazon and got the NS50 version but with ROM 1.03 with a Jan. 2018 build date on the sticker. OK, so I hadn't seen this drive as UHD friendly, but doing a search I came across this thread where multiple people have confirmed this older (WH14, not 16) drive is "friendly" which is good news for me (and should be updated on some sites hopefully), but the bad news is the 1.03 firmware installed. So all I need to do is downgrade the firmware to 1.02, and no I don't want to convert the firmware to the Asus 3.02 as I don't see that listed as hackintosh friendly. That's where I'm at, so what's the easiest why to go from 1.03 firmware to 1.02 on the LG WH14NS40 (NS50) blu-ray drive?
I have actually done this now, and it worked fine. loading the LG with the ASUS firmware seemed to unlock the higher speed the ASUS is known for. the unit is now sitting at the stock LG 1.02IITravel01 wrote: Sat Jul 28, 2018 6:33 pm Anyone try to cross update the firmware of a LG 1.03 to the Asus 3.02 and then back again to the LG 1.02?
OK, did you upgrade to the Asus using the simple cross upgrade firmware for the Asus drive? If so, then what software did you downgrade back to the LG 1.02 firmware? The reason I was wondering if anyone had done this was to see if the Asus to LG firmware downgrade from 3.02 to 1.02 required all the procedures that doing the LG 1.03 to 1.02 needed (appears simple to cross upgrade with the Asus firmware tool, but going back was my question), or if since the LG didn't notice that it was downgrading because it doesn't see 1.03, just allowed you install 1.02?jonghotti wrote: Mon Aug 13, 2018 1:53 pmI have actually done this now, and it worked fine. loading the LG with the ASUS firmware seemed to unlock the higher speed the ASUS is known for. the unit is now sitting at the stock LG 1.02IITravel01 wrote: Sat Jul 28, 2018 6:33 pm Anyone try to cross update the firmware of a LG 1.03 to the Asus 3.02 and then back again to the LG 1.02?

These searches that return all my “didn’t take my psych meds today” posts are embarrassing as fuck.
