This is an extremely helpful guide. Thanks Billy. I’m new to this hobby, so to clarify and make sure im understanding correctly—it seems possible to flash an LG Drive on MacOS, but that requires terminal commands, while on the other hand, doing so on Windows is a bit more straightforward, using the SDF Flasher program? I ask only because i have both a PC and a Mac, and I am deciding which is best to flash with. Also, if i flash the LG Drive on my PC, will i still be able to use the drive with makeMKV on my Mac? Thanks again for your time and help :)

Yes, terminal commands on Mac but you can use the SDFtool GUI on Windows. Once the drive is flashed, it'll work on Mac or Windows.

Hello everyone. I have two ASUS BW-16D1HT drives. One in a computer running Windows 7 64-bit and the other in a fully updated Windows 11 computer. The first time I used one of my drives, I updated it without realizing it was a mistake because it sabotaged the ability to copy UltraHD Blu-ray discs, so I didn't update the second drive. With both, I've been able to back up some of my Blu-ray movies thanks to MakeMKV. Yesterday, I tried to copy UltraHD Blu-ray discs for the first time, and neither drive was even able to read them.

These are the drive details:

In Windows 7 64-bit:

In Windows 11:

Today I was determined to use the method described here, so I've been reading several posts and I'm scared. I don't know if I'll be able to do it correctly. I'm afraid of rendering my drives unusable. From what I understand, each of my drives seems to require a different method. It's driving me crazy. If someone would be so kind as to give me some specific instructions, please do. Thank you very much.

You need to flash both of your drives to enable UHD readability. Just use the SDFtool Flasher on your Windows 11 64 bit PC. The method is exactly the same and you can flash both of them to BW-16D1HT 3.10-MK. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22896

Does flashing UHD friendly firmware to a new drive void its warranty? Or does that depend on the drive manufacturer? I have an Asus drive. Am I able to flash the original firmware back if I read it with the flashing software before writing any other firmware and write it back later on before sending the unit to warranty repair if required in the future?

If you in the USA no they would have to prove the flashing caused damage.

Other parts of the world idk

Either way you can just flash it back to stock before you send it in and they won't know

Welcome! It's helpful to provide the output from MakeMKV's Drive Info/LibreDrive Info sections to avoid mistakes.

That said, from the 1st post of this topic...
Unlocked Flashers, Downgrade Enabled Firmware and MK Firmware:

The only flasher anyone should be using now is Martys SDF GUI it now has built in safety's still check out the requirements and follow the recommending firmware but it shouldn't let you brick an old drive and should detect if the firmware is encrypted automatically

Hey ! Also new here, there's a lot of information around and I'm still having doubts about whether or not my drive is checking all the boxes to be flashed. I keep finding posts about kinda-similar-but-not-quite-the-same-drive-specs so I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me for sure.

Drive Information
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-12D1S-U
Revision: E412
Firmware date: 2019-03-07
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8F00
Firmware version: ID44

No disc inserted

Also, thank you for all the work, this software rules and it's mindblowing seeing a forum this active nowadays !

Cheers !

Yes, terminal commands on Mac but you can use the SDFtool GUI on Windows. Once the drive is flashed, it'll work on Mac or Windows.
Thanks!

Just wanted to offer advice in case you're having issues with your drive not reading discs suddenly. My LG WH16NS60 stopped reading after some read/opening errors on a with one disc and then wouldn't open a disc I was just using. A power cycle didn't rectify so figured I'd try using the SDF Tool to recover the drive using the firmware provided (from here). That worked perfectly.

Are you referring to the SDF Flasher Tool from this site or an official LG tool?

Thanks for confirming.

I'll try this with my LG BH16NS55 which is cross flashed to the WH16NS60 1.02MK firmware.
