Hey guys, I am having some issues downgrading the WH16NS40 SVC Code NS50 with 1.03 firmware. I have used 4 machines now to find one that supports IDE mode on the SATA. When we run the doshflash32 on windows 7 32bit, we are able to get the software to recognize the drive, but as soon as we try and read the flash, we get an "No known flash chip on this port!" error.

When we try to read the flash via freedos, we get a "Unknown Flash Chip" error.

Is there something we are doing wrong here?

Thanks for the help.
Try swapping the drive to the first or second sata port some people report that that works

@TeddyRaspin

Hi. So i was late to the party and need to flash my drive. I got as far as winhex, and couldn't save the file because i don't own the software. So i guess I'm asking if you could edit the file for me. Was hoping to do it myself, as we like to do, but i know when to admit defeat. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

1) 3.01 or 3.02 modded fw make your unit to be UHD friendly.

2) Yes, it supports any MediaTek MT1939/MT1959 chipset (mainly LG, ASUS).

3) Win7-PE, as the name suggests, is a Windows 7 Portable Edition, which is needed to properly execute DOSFLASH32.

If you carefully read my own guide, you'll find any answers for yourself.
HI Teddy, new to the forum and was wondering of you could pm me, cause i cant pm you, because im new.

Here is an ASUS 3.01 firmware with your data for you. (DON'T FORGET: Change the extension to .bin)

Also, I have attached the ASUS firmware updater downloaded at the end of 2017 if you want to use it. After I flashed my drive to ASUS 3.01, I then used this firmware updater to upgrade my drive to ASUS 3.02. I assume this still works. If not, just reflash the ASUS 3.01 I gave you.

Have fun!

Your welcome!

Which firmware did you settle with? ASUS 3.01 or 3.02? Just curious if the ASUS firmware updater still works...
Cheers :D

Hi you all,
Just got a LG BH16NS40 (Oct 2015) SVC Code NS40

Has anyone been successful at flashing the NS50 firmware onto this NS40 device - and if so what's best way to do this?

Thanks!!
I don't think there is a way to do this successfully. I tried multiple times, and ended up bricking my drive (tray would open/close, but would not read any discs, even standard blu-rays or DVDs). I had to flash it back to v1.00 that I found for the NS40 tag using DOSFlash, then re-upgraded using the official LG flasher to get it working normally again.
Hey man. I bought a LG wh14ns40 drive and flashed the bt firmware and upgraded to 3.0 and bricked my drive. Would love to know how you reverted back.

the way to unbrick is to flash back the original firmware that you hopefully dumped

Depends, most likely no. How does the drive identifies itself? Is it visible at all? If yes, what is the manufacturer and model name?
