Hi everyone!
I received a Verbatim slim drive for christmas and I'm trying to understand how to use it properly with makemkv
It says that Libredrive is enabled, but disks won't read?
Here are the details. Any help would be appreciated!
Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-UD04
Revision: 1.14
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2020-06-15
Bus encryption flags: 1B
LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8A10
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-US04
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.14
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
Most likely a power problem since the enclosure is very power hungry. Connect o USB-C if possible or to a powered USB hub.
Thanks for the help, that did the trick!!
For anyone else looking into this
I tested using a high quality USB-A to USB-C 3.1 cable
I also tested with a USB-C to USB-C 3.1 100W (overkill I know) cable
speeds were verified with USB Tree View utility
the C to C cable works perfectly for UHD discs and everything else I throw at it
the A to C cable only worked for standard blu-ray and dvd but not for UHD discs
During the initial seek (disc spin up?) the drive pulls upwards of 1.1A and then settles in at around 0.6A

Yep, this is why USB-C is recommended whenever possible.

Hi, sorry to jump on the back of this thread but I am also having issues with my drive even seeing a 4k Ultra UHD disc. This is with the latest download of MakeMKV and others.
I can only see the model as "212-M" and can't see anything more detailed (unless of course I take the drive out of the case). If I have to then that is the case
My driver is showing as

- BDR.PNG (39.86 KiB) Viewed 46002 times
Can this be updated? Going to Pioneer site there are several 212 with different codes but none that just say 212-M.
Or is it time to buy a newer BDXL Drive
Thanks
Andrew

ok, so basically no new drives will recognise or play 4k UHD even though they are described as doing so?
Is it possible to drop the firmware or flash it to a lower version so that it does read it?
Kind of crazy that drives are now effectively useless. I am guessing that this is some sort of deliberate protection, but again, what is the point of the drive being BDXL if it still will not read them.
I wanted to get this on to Plex, but even without that, if I can't play them, not sure why the discs are even produced.
I have seen some other posts about your software that can flash/downgrade? Does this include support for this drive?
Thank you

they see 4K discs just fine play them back too but only if you have an official sgx setup
makemkv cant do anything with the new fw thats all
again it will read them but you cant rip or copy them you have to remember ripping is an exploit your only supposed to play them in their eyes
legally encrypted backups are fine but its more gray when you decrypt it
only if the fw is older than 12/22
i have some with old fw still if you want one see below and email me

As many of you have noticed, Pioneer released a mass firmware update for almost all drives. The firmware date is around December 2022 and release date is around February 2023. The sole purpose of this update is to disable LibreDrive and unofficial firmware flashing tools such as DVRtool.
This will eventually be dealt with. The ETA, whether drive flashing would be required, and the flashing process are yet unknown. We are working as fast as we can.
Please do not update the the drive firmware, unless you really need to.
In October 2024, I bought a Pioneer BDR-212V from Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08R8 ... asin_title
It was manufactured in 2024. I got a firmware and flash tool from another user here and was able to successfully flash it, and I'm able to rip 1080p blu-ray and even 4K discs with it. After flashing the firmware, it comes up as a BDR-S12U 1.02:

Regardless of manufacturing date, these drives come with a FW that predates Pioneer crippled FW.
Firmware date: 2022-03-07
