Check the date of the firmware. Only drives with firmware after late 2015 can be flashed for UHD.
Does that mean, if the BP55EB40 has SVC EB40 and has firmware after late 2015, it can be crossflashed for UHD compatiblity, otherwise not. Right?
Thanks!
If you are willing to risk bricking it, give it a go but in general, those with SVC NB40 / EB40 shouldn't be flashed, even if manufactured after October 2015. I've seen way more get bricked than being flashed successfully for UHD readability.

In the past I had a BP55EB40, built April or May 2016. MT1959 and go..... and bricked because there was no BU40N inside but a BU20N.
When in doubt, open and look, then you are on the safe side, imo.

Hi all,
I have this drive, 2017, rom 1.00, svc eb40, and crossflashed it a while back (couple years, maybe); can't remember any warning about risk of bricking it, back then, but, for what's worth, it's working, though I havent't tried any uhd media - or any bd, for that matter (barely use it)...
