How dead? Does the laser still work? The drive would only need to be able to mount the disk, it wouldn't need to be able to read it completely.

Very dead - it won't mount any disk. Tried different cables, computers, OS's. Same result.

These drives die early. My first after a year. Get a Pioneer - and hurry to do so.

I’m really sorry for reviving this old thread. I’ve just got a fresh copy of the Wicked 4k disk. I have downloaded the latest version of makemkv and I also own a license. I’m using a Buffalo BRUHD-PU3-BK as my drive. Have ripped over 16tb worth of movies and no issues. However when making a backup for this disk I get no errors but my ziddo and R_volution players cant read the file. The movie strata but the menus is black and does not show all the options. When playing the movie nothing happens just black screen.

I’m so lost at this point. Any tips?

Ensure you check the decrypt box when making a full disc folder backup.
