Been away for a while.

With the third copy (returning the first two), I've been able to rip the disc without any issue. Even if the disk was looking super clean to the eye and play well in my Panasonic player. It really was something about the disk.

The drive work well when the disks are ok.

I rip dozens and dozens of 4Ks disk without any issue, only sometime, there are some that are problematic and I post here as the last resort for a logical answer. The replacement disks habitually are fine so if it was the drive, I would get the same results from disk to disk which isn't the case at all.

I leave this post open to help others, my problem for that movie is resolve.

Yeah, I'm on my 3rd ASUS drive, if I had known about a good Pioneer drive, I would have gotten that one. So far this one hasn't been giving me any trouble but if it does, then I will get a Pioneer. What is a good one that you would recommend for blu-rays and 4Ks? I use MakeMKV and DVDfab for ripping.

And DVDfab doesn't support pioneer at all at this point. They talked about adding it at one point but haven't so far. You can't go wrong with one of Billy's drives though. They are rock solid!

Thanks for the help. That's good to know because I use DVDfab for blu-rays and dvds, makeMKV for 4Ks.

I seem to also have an issue with this. Partway through 28249.8M if that helps. It just stops working without any errors. Just stops spinning and MakeMKV shows it continuing but with no data being added. Happened twice now and not sure what's going on. Any ideas other than returning and trying with a new disc?

Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N

Disc Information
Label: ALIENS
Timestamp: 2024-02-13 19:20:43
Protection: AACS2.0/C v77
Data capacity: 85.60 Gb
Disc type: BD-ROM UHD
Number of layers: 3
Bus encryption flags: 80

EDIT: New disc worked. both says it was manufactured 2/13/25 so seems like they did not fix any QC issues they have with these. No scratches on either but one works and one doesn't
