Maybe it's possible to split part 1 right before the last 3 black seconds, and split the second part after the first 2, then combine the resulting individual files to have a seamless cut between them? Hmmm...

I can confirm this just worked with the 1080p versions! I split the first part at 1:45:38 and split the second at 00:00:02 and then stitched them back together and it worked, seamless transition!



It's possible that a couple of frames on either side of the cut were removed...I'll have to play back the originals in a player that shows frame count, or import into Davinci Resolve and get them there, then do a more accurate cut.

Once the 4K ones come this week I'll try again and make sure that DV and DA are preserved and then report back.

No they are on their own discs and the bitrate is slightly lower.

Not the issue. My nas is currently maxed out and has around 2.5tb left which will be gone soon. I need to build a bigger nas but it costs money.

What kind of NAS do you have? I have a Synology 1819+ with 8 drives all 10TB. It would be cheaper to buy a 5-bay add-on drive and get 5 10TB drives for than than to upgrade the existing 10TB drives to 16TB. I'm at 72% capacity, 15TB left.

The Data Hoarder crowd over on Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/) likes to shuck drives out of external storage. These days <$200 for a 14TB drive seems to be what people go for. You probably won't get a 7200 RPM enterprise grade drive, but that might not matter.

Yeah, full NAS is a pain. Looked hard at getting one for a long time but that issue is why I decided to stick with keeping all my drives in my main system. Just a ton easier to deal with adding space and making adjustments.
And I certainly need all that space as I'll be keeping my Theatrical and Extended BR versions of LOTR & Hobbit when I add both of these UHD versions as I keep the BR version for family streaming and non-UHD devices.

Yep I have a 4 bay QNAP with 8TB shucked drives that was starting to run out of space, so I just got another 6 bay during black Friday with 4 12TBs in there so far. I think this should be good for at least another few years (hopefully).

This is why btrfs is the best for storing large media collections. It is EXTREMELY easy to add/remove/expand the raid array live online without interruption. One of your old 8TB drives needs to be replaced with some 16TB drives? btrfs replace, bam, done.

raid1c3 for metadata, raid6 for data. Works great, been stable for a few years now.
