Oh great, lots of tools there. Since I had flashed to asus 3.10 I used the ASUS ODD FW Changer and selected HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900-212005061440.bin but still not responsive. Shows correct HW in device manager now though. So I figured lets try going back to a older fw and tried HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.03-NM00600-211711211653.bin with the same result, just does nothing when putting in a cd.

in the SDFtool flasher thread there is a recovery fw DE_LG_WH16NS40_1.01.bin.zip (great!) but the sdftool flasher gives me a .net exception error on launch and doesn't allow me to select my drive. Edit - Just needed to install makemkv, it works now but doesn't seem to work better than any others.

When I select that recovery fw with the ASUS ODD FW Flasher that has worked with the other ones it gives an error and doesn't allow me to continue.

In this thread - https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=18933

I grabbed "Below is the link to the modified ASUS FW Flasher + Downgrade Enabled Firmware + the latest MK firmware pack (20/07/2020):" and loaded up DE_LG_WH16NS40_1.02_NS50.bin and it successfully flashed....but still the same result. Drive ejects few blue blinking lights at close but otherwise non-responsive.

I thought for sure that last one would work because its the OFW but I guess not :(

btw the last OFW I flashed that worked was direct from LG - WH16NS40_1.02-A0(ew).zip

Any advice?

Thanks :)

Well damn, now I think I know the issue. June 2014 :/ The OFW told me "NS50" for status so I thought I was ok sigh.

This is unfortunate.

Billy. I also just updated my guides on Redfox ( English / German) . I thought that I had put out enough warnings. No. Maybe you can get some inspirations for your guide from mine that is strictly thought for users of AnyDVD.

If you look at my reply before the last you'll see that I did attempt to use this however perhaps I'm not using the correct recovery file? If you could let me know specifically which file to try I would appreciate it thank you

Yes, DE_LG_WH16NS40_1.01.bin.zip ?

I did this already. it did not work. Is this the file that should have recovered my 2014 WH16NS40 ? You are supposed to select recover drive, check enc, select DE_LG_WH16NS40_1.01.bin and write yes? If yes, that did not resolve.

I noticed that flashing with SDFTool is much faster than with the Asus ODD Flasher or the OFW flasher from LG. Is this normal?

Usage:

Select a drive from the first drop down box.

Select either WRITE, READ or RECOVER option (write is default).

If you selected RECOVER:

A "file browser" will open so you can select the drive's current (wrong) firmware. This is so the boot ID can be obtained.

Click the second drop down box to select the correct firmware to flash. (DE_LG_WH16NS40_1.01.bin)

You can now press the START button to recover the drive and flashing the selected firmware to your drive. Once the firmware has been flashed successfully, the application will refresh the drive list shown in the drop down box.

NO NEED to check 'enc'.

" A "file browser" will open so you can select the drive's current (wrong) firmware. This is so the boot ID can be obtained"

This part confuses me. What file am I supposed to select at that part? I selected DE_LG_WH16NS40_1.02_NS50.bin as thats the last fw I flashed. Is that ok? After that choosing
the second dropdown to select DE_LG_WH16NS40_1.01.bin it produces the following error -

Command produced error code 0x8f052400

Setup pic - https://imgur.com/a/Fy5BZfZ

I *think* im following your instruction correctly I just don't know why its throwing that error.

For giggles I tried flashing HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900-212005061440.bin with SDFTool and it did successfully flash it, the status changed from 1.02 to 1.05. So I did recover, selected HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900-212005061440.bin, then 2nd dropdown selected DE_LG_WH16NS40_1.01.bin and it produced the same error as above 0x8f052400

Let me know what I should try and thank you :)

Can you just please tell me which recovery file I'm supposed to be using? There were only two in the SDF thread and one was for my model and the other was not.

Telling me I'm doing wrong without telling me which file to pick won't help me resolve it.

Thank you

That should have worked for you. Can you try running app as administrator and trying again?

I've never had an old drive to test the recovery on. I've only had a desktop drive cross-flashed to slim drive firmware, so not exactly the same issue as yourself but the recovery method is supposed to be the same. See my example below...

Step 1: I have a BH16NS55 that has been accidently cross-flashed to slim drive BU40N firmware.

Step 2: I have selected the drive and clicked "Recover Drive" which opened up the filebrowser soI can select the current (wrong) firmware. I selected BU40N 1.00 as that is what is currently on the drive.

Step 3: I now select the firmware file to flash in the 2nd drop down box. As you can see, I selected BH16NS55 1.04 MK.

Step 4: Click START button to recover the drive. As you can see, my drive has been recovered and is now on BH16NS55 1.04 MK firmware.
