Contact Mike Admin. He may want a copy of that firmware. If he can extract it remotely, he should also send you a copy.
Sent extracted FW dump to Mike Admin. PM still unread. No reply.

Would flash with another FW if I could *find* one. Lots of "download this or that," but never a link or location.

Hi!

I bought an HL-DT BU40N which came with firmware 1.04.
I have successfully downgraded it to 1.03mk.
It's ok for MakeMKV but does not work with DvdFab.

I need version 1.00 or maybe 1.01 for DvdFab.
Can someone post them because I searched but couldn't find them?

Thank you

It's unlikely you will get anyone to backup your firmware for you as it takes an hour and no one has anything to gain from this.
It's not new firmware where we have to figure out a new workaround and will add to help the community. The whole point of these new flashers is they are safer to flash as it's the same way the oem updaters work.
If you didn't want to flash your own drive because your scared you should have bought one from one of the sellers

While the guide is much appreciated, finding it and locating the resources are nowhere near as straightforward as they could be. If the forum's board index had a 'download' section, with Windows and Mac sub-sections…

I would also make the 'MK firmware pack' far less cryptic. Folders of BU40N-FR, BU40N-N-Main, BU40N-R-Tier2-Taiwan, BU40N-U-Tier2-Non-UHD (for just the BU40N drive) leave all but the diehards confused. Imagine if the MakeMKV application actually auto-generated a link to download the best firmware for each drive it recognized!

Ultimately, all *I* needed was the sdf.bin, DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin firmware, and the correct command line syntax; ALL of which were unnecessarily difficult to locate. Could have taken a few minutes, rather than multiple days of reading.

Speed aside, is it necessary to upgrade v1.00 to v1.03 or v1.03MK to avoid the sleep bug? Or is only a given factory version without it, and flashing will introduce it? Or is there a range of 'good' versions?

Bu40n has no sleep bug at all

I've been an IT professional for decades and it took me the equivalent of one full business day to collate the information required to safely flash a drive, not to mention a copy of MakeMKV 1.17.7 from the Wayback Machine because it was deleted from the website but nothing newer works on Linux (or perhaps on macOS either).

A forum is not the right place to collate this information; a wiki is.

That said, I will be purchasing MakeMKV to support the project.

What's was wrong with grabbing an old version? https://makemkv.com/download/old/

Does that link exist anywhere on the Downloads page? I sure can't spot it there...

It doesn't appear on the download page, but it is where the old (and current) versions are kept.

How do you expect people to find it then?! As many have said, a wiki is the better place to keep (and maintain) a single source of truth.

That is a question to ask Mike Admin, who maintains the links.

Generally speaking, though, he could feel that most people wouldn't need old versions, so they're available but not prominently so. For those who don't have permanent keys, extracting an old version would present you with the "old key" issue, if you didn't also pull the current version to install the current key.

Personally, I keep half a dozen versions installed, so I can test things with different versions, but I've had a permanent key for over 15 years, so that isn't an issue.
