Which is better?

‎1) Verbatim‎ 43888 Slimline with Pioneer UD04 (~100 bucks)

2) Archgon MD-8107S-U3YC-UHDB-K with LG BU40N (~150 bucks)

These are two slim drives I can buy in my country right now as I see them on Amazon and both should work more or less out of the box or with little effort. But which is really better? The Pioneer just for the name? Or the LG for it's speed? I think the LG should rip with 6x and the Pioneer with 4x.

Just can't decide. People say always chose the Pioneer but the LG seems better in it's specs.

A pioneer is way better yes it's slower but it will act so much better LG/Asus always do something funny and need a reboot give hash errors.
Never once have I had to do that on a pioneer.

Can you burn M-disc with this one and can you then see them on a Panasonic UB-9000 ?

If you burn M-disc is it enough with power from USB ?

What disc are you burning with the 43888 ?

It says you need to get playback software that is not included, what do you use ?

If you have M-disc do you use 25 or 100 ?

Most people would use MakeMKV to rip a movie off a disc then play the rip with VLC or Plex or whatever.

I am not going to rip movies, i am saving my personal camcorder videos from first it was DV tapes and then DVD and now i want it to be saved on a more secure way.

Probably not much point in asking about this here on the MakeMKV forum as we all use this software to rip our movies, mainly for NAS storage. You'd be hard pressed to find someone here who writes to optical media these days.

I can also vouch for the compatibility of the Verbatim 43888. I bought the thing for approximately EUR100 to rip my Blu-ray collection (not 4K though!). Everything is unlocked, it's on the original firmware and reads disks like a maniac. I do have to say that it's a loud thing. I put an extra rubber mat underneath it to make it a bit more quiet. Build quality is a bit poor - feels very fragile. Other than that: Cheap option for a very fast ripper!
