Your drive is already libredrive enabled and UHD ready. If it won't read UHD discs you have some other issue. Try pasting MakeMKV's log window text when attempting to rip a UHD disc and we might be able to help further.
Also, you should insert the disc and let the OS initiialise it (you should see it in windows explorer)
before you open MakeMKV.

My optical drive has recently failed so looking to get a replacement. Before purchasing can I ask a sanity check please: if I get a Verbatim 43890 will I be able to flash this drive myself?

If it's new stock it contains a LG BU40N and you can flash it according to the UHD guide. If it's old stock it might contain a Pioneer UD03 and you have to post again so I will forward a package to flash it.
