He said "record" not "rip", unless he meant "rip".

i didnt say rip but yeah that drive will not see a UHD disc at all unless you buy it from me marty or asmcom and the drive info will not look like that at all

its not an official UHD drive so it does not see those discs

True, you said "read" but fundamentally there is no difference between "read" and "rip" since ripping requires reading. If the drive doesn't even recognise a UHD then, I concede, that it wouldn't record either.

Do I use the flasher on this thread: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22896 or something else entirely?

I saw that "MartyMcNuts" said to use "1. HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-BU12-OM01001-211902230922.bin
2. DE_Buffalo_BRUHD-PU3_BU10 OR DE_LG_BU40N_1.00", so any of these three firmwares work?

Oh wow I guess I missed this firmware was on the encrypted list. Add enc seems to have fixed the issue. Thank you!

Any idea if my current firmware is encrypted or not?

It is, check "enc" if not checked automatically.

Hey All,
Bit of a newb at this. Im looking to regenerate my macbook pro mid 2009 and have it as my ripper for my media libarary.

Anyone know if this would support make MKV?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07TG9CBR8/ ... _lig_dp_it

Or anyone know of an internal drive for my MBP that would?

Thanks in advance

A 2009 era MacBook Pro probably has USB 2.0 ports on it. You could easily get 'full sized' desktop style drive and put in a powered external case and plug it into the USB port on the side of your MBP.

Something like the OWC Mercury Pro enclosure or a Vantec NexStar DX2 enclosure will hold an optical drive, power it, and allow it to be connected to any computer over USB.

Going this route is probably a better choice than trying to jam something into the innards of your old MBP. With the drive in an external enclosure, you can easily move it when a mac Mini replaces that old MBP. :)

Big thanks to MartyMcNuts and the other devs for the SDF tool. Getting a WH14NS40 to rip UHDs was super easy. :D
