I purchased a Pioneer device on eBay.
I have no idea how to check whether the burner is new or used (any ideas?), but at the moment it seems to be working, even though I haven't made any ripping yet.
However, I would like to ask you this.
Here is the information returned by MakeMKV:
Drive Information
OS device name: I:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-212D
Revision: 1.00
Serial number: XXXXXXXXXXXXX
Firmware date: 2019-01-10
Bus encryption flags: 13
Highest AACS version: 78
LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8F00
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-212T
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.00/ID61
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
The unit arrived with the initial firmware, and it seems to be already unlocked as a LibreDrive device.
However, I understand that the firmware may be too old and unable to rip discs with recent AACS versions.
Do you suggest I update the firmware or leave it as it is?
What limitations would I have if I leave the current firmware?
Thank you for your attention!

The drive is fairly old but it should be OK. I will send you a PM that allows also ripping of UHD discs. Regarding the newest AACS dumps have to be sent from a non-Pioneer drive but you can always use the keydb.cgf file. Read this thread:

FWIW, I just successfully ripped all 30 UHD discs of the "Game Of Thrones: The Complete Collection" UHD box set using a Pioneer BDR-212V in a OWC Mercury Pro (OWCMR3UKIT) enclosure.
This is frivolous information to most, but it's a landmark for me as I never thought disc GOTUHD_S7_D2_B5 would rip :-/

And yes we checked that wit LG WH16NS58 1.V5 and VPTools. All newer multilayer discs after Verbatim moved the equipment to Taiwan have issues at the layer break. 50 Gb Ritek are still Ok. Were. These tests are 2 years old. Advice: Stop burning discs!
Hi, sorry for replying to an old post, but could you advice me where I can download LG WH16NS58 1.V5 and VPTools? I just purchased BUFFALO BRXL-16U3 and am trying to make it a BD quality scanner. Thank you in advance.

I replied to your PM. Is this Buffalo a full size drive with the MT1959 chip? The safest way to check is posting or sending your Makemkv info.
