Your drive is not a BD writer but a BD combo and can‘t be flashed.

Thanks for the update. You had identified this drive as one suppported earlier, but this seems to be wrong then. Seems like I have to look for a new drive to get the features I need.

I was quite in a hurry since I'm on vacation and travelling. Firmware 8591 identifies it as a combo and I should have noticed that. Sorry!

The drive platform is MT1959, which means the drive's internals are the same as other LG drives. As such, you can flash it yourself using the tools and instructions in the Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide. As Billycar11 says in the referenced post, follow the instructions for the LG BU40N with encrypted firmware.
