Hi all, I'm thinking of buying this drive
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B079LTC6ML/?co ... _lig_dp_it but I don't understand the information on page 1 of this thread. To me its very convoluted. which firmware file would I use? and once I have the drive, to flash it, all I do is follow the instructions or video below?
How To Flash Videos and commands:
New Updated guide for all Drives and firmware including encrypted firmware:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyQV1aPlbow
1. Open cmd as admin
2. Navigate to makemkvs install directory by default on 64 bit systems it is here: cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV"
3. If you have a listed encrypted firmware you must use this command: makemkvcon64.exe f --all-yes -d “ your drive letter here Example: D”: rawflash enc -i “path to your firmware Example: C:\Users\Billy\Downloads\Downgrade-Enabled-Firmware\Auto-Flash\LG-Desktop-NS60-sleep-fix\WH16NS60-1.02-MK.bin”
4. If you have unencrypted firmware use this command: makemkvcon64.exe f --all-yes -d “ your drive letter here Example: D”: rawflash -i “path to your firmware Example: C:\Users\Billy\Downloads\Downgrade-Enabled-Firmware\Auto-Flash\LG-Desktop-NS60-sleep-fix\WH16NS60-1.02-MK.bin”
5. Remove my examples and quotes ”” when you run the commands

For flashing on Windows, you should use the SDFtool Flasher.

The first post in this thread is fairly information dense. I had to read it a couple times before I could really make sense of it.

I truly appreciate all the information provided in this thread and forum. I was able to pickup a brand new BP50NB40-NB50 with encrypted firmware from someone locally for $20 last weekend and spent the week reading this thread and a few others in hopes of successfully flashing my drive in OSX. I don't have access to a Windows 10 computer and my imac is a late 2009 model, so I'm pretty sure win10 is out of the question even through bootcamp.
However, after two firmware flashes I am happy to say I successfully ripped my first UHD disc last night! Thank you so much!

Please answer my basic questions. I bought this drive ASUS BW-16D1H (EU version).
In order to read my UHD 4K original and rip. Do I need to unlock the firmware? Or a bootloader of some kind?
Is it possible to unlock it when I have the
new firmware 3.11 from the manufacturer? It's new from the store, I can return it within 14 days.
I can`t use sdflash tool, because I get error. MT1959 platform see only banned x

Some of the Amazon reviews claim that it does not support UHD.
This forum maintains a list of models that can work for UHD in the first post of this thread:
Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide
Also in there are links to flashing tools, firmware, and lists of which firmware go on which drive.
Furthermore, if you want to avoid all of that, the flashing guide also has a list of sellers who will sell you a flashed & tested drive that will work with MakeMKV.

Hi all,
new to forum, ordered a new WH14NS40 from amazon.
Is the Sata to USB conversion required for flashing and ripping blurays?
or its only required for flashing but after its done, can I rip by connecting it internally as sata to my motherboard?

I've just purchased a BU40N (
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071CPRK74? ... ct_details) in Kafuty Enclosure (
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B083RB57YL? ... ct_details)
When I try flashing it using the SDFtool I get the error code 0xff056103.
I'm using the firmware HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934.bin but the drive is being reported as HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BU40N_1.04_212005061142_MO8N3GE4242.
Is the problem that the pre-installed firmware is too new? If so is there an updated firmware available for it / some other way to get it on.
Or could it be a problem with the enclosure? (I'm not sure if other people have experience of using this one?)
Thanks.

Heya there, After having a WH14NS40 get somehow damaged in shipping without any visual damage (inserted disk is not recognized nor does the drive spin up but the drive has power and shows up both in windows and linux) I am looking to buy another drive off of eBay to hopefully get a functional drive in order to start ripping my UHD Blu-ray collection.
Doing a bit of research I have found this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/374519830935 BU40N but from HP, whereas the UHD guide on the forum here states "LG BU40N". I am assuming that this is the same drive as it looks exactly similar and that it is just labeled differently, but I just would need someone to confirm if I could flash the correct MK firmware in order to be able to rip with this drive.
Best Regards
Hector
