ASUS does not actually manufacture optical drives. They do, however, rebrand other optical drives and put their own firmware on them. Some older ASUS drives were rebranded Pioneer drives. Most often ASUS drives are rebranded LG drives. An ASUS BW-16D1HT is the same hardware as an LG WH14NS40, which is the same hardware as an LG WH16NS60. A BU40N is LG's mobile optical drive and is found in all kinds of things. BU40Ns are considered relatively decent drives.

For what it's worth, with a regular blu-ray, I have seen my Pioneer drives go as fast 6.7x (29.0 M/s). For a 4K UHD, I've never seen my Pioneer's go faster than 4.0x. Reading a regular blu-ray is easier, however, than reading a 4K UHD, since the data density on a regular blu-ray is lower. And in general, my Pioneer drives have been more reliable than my LG based drives. I'd much rather reliably get a rip slower than get a failed rip faster. :)

Please help! I have a slim Pioneer UD03 with platform type = RS8510.

Is this drive flashable for playing/ripping UHD discs? Whih .bin file should I get and can I use SDFTool to flash because the SDFTool says I am not on the right platform.

Much appreciated
